Professional Activities
Dr. Florent Rouxelin is an Assistant Professor of Finance at Florida International University. His research spans a variety of topics, including blockchain technology, cryptocurrency, sustainable finance, and equity & currency return predictions. Dr. Rouxelin's work has been published in journals such as The Accounting Review, Information & Management, and Decision Support Systems, reflecting his ongoing contributions to the field.
Dr. Rouxelin was born and raised near Aix-en-Provence, in the South of France. He earned a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the Ecole Polytechnique Universitaire de Marseille, France. He later pursued further studies at the University of California, Berkeley, where he obtained an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering. His academic path continued at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management, where he earned an M.S. in Finance, and he completed his Ph.D. in Finance at the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia. His diverse global experiences, including time spent in Australia, Scotland, Argentina, as well as the San Francisco Bay Area and Chicago, have shaped his approach to teaching and research.
At FIU, Dr. Rouxelin is committed to providing a student-centered learning environment. He developed the Master of Science in Finance (MSF) course Financial Innovations (FIN6457C) from scratch, introducing students to emerging technologies like blockchain and cryptocurrency. This course was recognized with the Students' Choice Best Course Award for Financial Innovation in 2024.
Dr. Rouxelin's broader dedication to teaching was further acknowledged with the Faculty Senate Excellence in Teaching Award in 2024, which was awarded in recognition of his work across all the classes he teaches.
Beyond his teaching responsibilities, Dr. Rouxelin mentors Ph.D. students and junior researchers, offering guidance to help them advance in their academic careers. He is dedicated to being accessible to all students, ensuring they receive the support necessary for their success.
In addition to his academic responsibilities, Dr. Rouxelin serves as an advisor to White Loop Capital, a private investment firm specializing in blockchain and cryptocurrency ventures. He provides strategic guidance on investment decisions in early-stage startups, drawing on his expertise in both traditional finance and emerging financial technologies. As seasoned consultant, he has also provided expert financial analysis for legal cases, and developed strategic financial models to optimize pricing and investment outcomes. His consulting work allows him to apply his academic insights to real-world challenges, bridging the gap between academia and industry while contributing to both fields.
Dr. Rouxelin is actively engaged with the broader academic and professional community, presenting his research at international conferences and several forums. His dedication to making research accessible and impactful is reflected in his efforts to reach diverse audiences, including through presentations at consulates and chambers of commerce. He is a member of the Brazilian-American Chamber of Commerce of Florida (BACCF). He speaks English, French, and Spanish, which further supports his commitment to fostering international collaboration and making a meaningful impact in the field of finance.
