Freshman College + Career Checklist
COLLEGE SUCCESS
- Complete Career Readiness Module at develop.fiu.edu.
- Complete career and exploration assessment through Business Career Management to confirm a major decision.
- Meet with assigned advisor to discuss short- and long-term goals that affect enrollment planning, such as internships, study abroad, double major, graduate school, etc.
- Create an academic success plan that includes a study-work-life balance.
- Familiarize yourself with critical resources for academic success, such as the Panther Success Network (PSN), to communicate with advising and Innovative Education and Student Success for free tutoring, reading, and test-taking skills.
- Complete Business Calculus (MAC 2233) or equivalent with a grade of C or better by 30 earned credits.
- Become a Panther2Panther peer mentee.
CAREER PATH
- Create a preliminary resume, upload resume into VMOCK, and have it critiqued by a career advisor.
- Meet with a career advisor to learn about self-assessment strategies to help identify your career-related interests, values, skills, and personality traits.
- Log in to your Handshake account to complete your personal and academic profile.
- Attend Business Career Management (BCM) workshops.

Sophomore College + Career Checklist
COLLEGE SUCCESS
- Complete a study abroad or national student exchange experience to gain skills such as global and cultural awareness.
- Establish an academic support network of faculty, staff, and upperclassmen through campus involvement, work study, or class projects.
- Complete all common pre-requisites with a minimum 2.5 GPA (Accounting Majors 2.75 GPA).
- Meet with an advisor to confirm completion of all university core curriculum and lower division electives.
- Finalize business major and career pathway decisions.
- Visit Business Career Management to learn about internships, job/hiring opportunities, as well as receive assistance with resume writing and interview techniques
CAREER PATH
- Update your profile in Handshake and update your resume in VMOCK before uploading it into Handshake.
- Start building your network by attending information sessions and meeting employers through the BCM office.
- Look for “Early Career,” “Diversity Summit,” or “Leadership Academy” opportunities that are specifically targeting sophomores in Handshake. Attend career fairs to identify potential internship opportunities for your junior year.
- Seek assistance from a career advisor to determine if your major is best suited for your intended career path.
- Attend Business Career Management (BCM) workshops.

Junior College + Career Checklist
COLLEGE SUCCESS
- Apply for College of Business scholarships.
- Explore and consider pursuing study abroad programs and joining student organizations.
- Complete a major-related internship to gain practical experience beyond learning in the classroom.
- Meet with an advisor during the first term to add any majors, minors, or certificates to the academic record.
- Research graduate schools and admission requirements.
- Become a Panther2Panther peer mentor.
- Meet with advisor to confirm graduation semester and year, and map out final courses needed to graduate on time. Make sure foreign language (FLENT/FLEX), Civic Literacy, summer enrollment, and global learning (GL) requirements are closed out on the panther degree audit.
CAREER PATH
- Decide which industries you would like to pursue; search for and apply for internships.
- Attend BCM events, such as the Business Career Fair, employer networking, information sessions, and other events.
- Practice your interview skills with InterviewPrep and participate in mock interviews.
- Create your LinkedIn profile to network with FIU Business alumni.
- Develop and perfect your elevator pitch and networking skills for career fairs and employer events.
- Attend Business Career Management (BCM) workshops.

Senior College + Career Checklist
COLLEGE SUCCESS
- Meet with an advisor to confirm all degree requirements are met.
- Apply for graduation.
- Complete an additional internship to gain practical experience beyond learning in the classroom.
- Take the GRE or GMAT as part of the application process for graduate school.
- Request faculty letters of recommendation.
CAREER PATH
- Update your resume and make sure it is critiqued and approved by a career advisor.
- Update your personal and academic profile in Handshake. Add any internships you've completed to your profile. Apply for positions after your resume is approved.
- Attend BCM events, such as the Business Career Fair, employer networking, information sessions, and other events.
- Ensure that your LinkedIn profile and all social media pages are professionally acceptable or privacy settings are in place.
- Attend Business Career Management (BCM) workshops.
- Thoroughly research employers so you can interview well and feel confident.
