Application & Requirements

Our Master of Science in Marketing candidates are highly motivated professionals intent on reaching that next level of leadership success. Admissions decisions can be quite competitive. Admission to the Master of Science in Marketing program is based on a variety of factors and will be evaluated holistically. Our admissions team carefully screens each application to ensure candidates are an optimal fit for the program demands and objectives.

To be eligible for admission to the program, students must:

  1. Have completed a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA of 3.0 (on a 4-point scale) in all their upper division course work, or have earned a graduate degree with a minimum of a 3.0 GPA
  2. Have at least 3 years of work experience, or a minimum score of 500 on the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) or equivalent score on the Graduate Record Exam (GRE)
  3. Be in good standing at all colleges and universities

Application Process (All Applicants)

  • STEP 1: Apply for the program
    • Complete the online application for admission.
    • Pay a $30 application fee. Most major credit cards are accepted. Checks or money orders are also accepted and should be made payable to Florida International University.
  • STEP 2: Submit all materials

    1. Official transcripts of a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) from an accredited college or university. Your academic records must be sent directly to us by your previous educational institution(s).

      • Transcripts: Yearly or semester records that indicate the number of lecture and/or laboratory hours and the grade or mark received in each course.

      • Diplomas: for all degrees you have received, with the title of degree and date conferred.

      • If the language of instruction at your institution was not English, then you must provide the original-language copies of all transcripts and diplomas as described above AND:

        • A separate English-language translation of all academic records. The translation should either come from a professional, certified translator. It must contain all information shown on the original-language documents and “mirror” them as precisely as possible.

        Please note that FIU accepts transcript and diploma translations, and all evaluations of official academic records are to be performed by FIU staff only. Some suggested agencies are found on the University Graduate School website.

    2. A current resume including detailed marketing experience, if any.

    3. Provide three letters of recommendation from professional supervisors and/or former faculty that attest to the applicant’s educational background, motivation, and analytical skills;

    4. Video statement of purpose outlining your professional goals in pursuing the MS in Marketing degree and why you would be an ideal candidate for admission into the program:

      • Applicant must be physically visible for the majority of the video

      • 3-minute maximum

      • Applicant must upload the video to his/her YouTube channel (set the privacy setting to unlisted or public for the video) and send the link to msm@fiu.edu

    5. Applicants who hold an undergraduate or graduate degree from non-English speaking countries must demonstrate English proficiency by taking either:

      • Duolingo (minimum score is 110)
      • TOEFL (minimum scores are: 550 paper-based, 213 computer-based, and 80 internet-based)
      • IELTS (minimum score is 6.5)

      TOEFL and IELTS test scores are considered official when sent by the testing center directly to our school. When requesting the official scores, please refer to the Florida International University Institution code 5206.

    Florida Residents: Two proofs of residency. Documents must be dated one year prior to the term you are seeking admissions. For a list of acceptable documents, please visit the Florida Residency for Tuition Purposes University page.

    International Student

    Please familiarize yourself with the requirements of the University Graduate School and the Office of International Students and Scholar Services. You are responsible for compliance with any and all University requirements. For more information on studying in the United States as an International or Foreign student please visit the State Department website.

    International applicants seeking an F-1 (student) visa must also submit the additional documents listed below.

    1. A completed digital Declaration of Finances form via MyFIU portal

    2. Bank Letter (Click Here for required funds)

    3. Sponsor Letter (Waived if applicant is sponsoring self). Please download a sample sponsor letter.

    4. F1 Transfer Form (If needed). International students must have an I-20 in order to secure F-1 status and participate in the program. Students must secure an F-1 Visa from the U.S. consular in their home country in order to enter the U.S.

    5. Proof of Medical Insurance. By Board of Trustees and university rule, all international students at FIU in F-1 and J-1 status are required to have medical insurance prior to registration. Proof must be submitted to the Health Compliance Office at University Health Services. Students will NOT be allowed to register for classes without complying with the medical insurance requirement, and will receive a hold on their registration.
      The medical insurance requirement can be met in one of two ways:

      • By purchasing the University-approved policy

      • By submitting an International Student Health Insurance Compliance Form completed by your current insurance company and approved by UHS

      The cost of this insurance is not covered by the program’s tuition and fees. For information on program coverage and alternate compliance, please visit the University Health Services Medical Insurance Policy for International Students page.

    A Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant Students (Form I-20) will be issued once the applicant has been found admissible to the University and the Declaration and Certification of Finances has been approved.

    The University is required by immigration authorities to check carefully the financial resources of each applicant prior to issuing the Form I-20. Therefore, it is important that you be aware of the cost of participating in the program and have the necessary support and funding for your period of enrollment. The total funds available for the entire program must equal the total estimate of institutional costs plus living expenses for the duration of the program (Click Here for amount to be shown on declaration of finance & bank letters). Please make sure that you provide us with sufficient proof of funds for at least this amount.
