The Graduate Certificate in Healthcare Management program is designed for working healthcare professionals who want to enhance their proficiency and breadth of knowledge in the healthcare management field. The objective of this graduate certificate is to provide individuals, who do not wish to pursue the Healthcare MBA, with a basic understanding of the context, management and reimbursement issues for health care organizations. It prepares students for a career in a healthcare environment by providing additional management skills and knowledge of the current factors affecting the healthcare delivery system. The certificate consists of five graduate classes.
Curriculum
Classes are structured into "blocks" or 8-week sessions, with each block consisting of one course:
- MAN 6095 - Management of Healthcare Organizations in the 21st Century
- MAN 6830 - Organization Information Systems
- MAN 6501 - Operations Management
- MAN 6098 - Management of Healthcare Finance and Reimbursement
- MAN 6097 - Managerial Decision Making in Health Economics

Admission Requirements
To be eligible for admission to the Graduate Certificate in Healthcare Management program, prospective students must hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum 3.0 GPA in upper-level undergraduate coursework.
Financial Aid
Students enrolled in the Graduate Certificate in Healthcare are not eligible to receive federal financial aid. Students have the option of applying for a Private/Alternative Loan to help cover 100% of the cost of the program.
Private student loans are non-federal educational loans available from a variety of national lending institutions. Eligibility for these loans is based upon a student’s credit history, income and other requirements set by the lender. Students should request a copy of their credit report and check it for any errors prior to submitting an application for a private loan. An application can be requested directly from the private lender of your choice.
FIU provides a sampling of private loans at https://www.elmselect.com/ ELM select is an external website that allows students to review the Lender List, compare products, and apply for private loans.
Private Loan Certification Process and Disbursement
The U.S. Department of Education requires that borrowers complete an Applicant Self-Certification form when requesting any private educational loans. Do not submit your self-certification form to the financial aid office, as FIU cannot complete the form for you. Once you have completed the form you will need to submit it to your lender.

The following sections of the form must be completed from your financial aid information available by logging-in to your account on my.fiu.edu under View Financial Aid link.
- Log-in to your account at MyFIU.
- To view the step by step screen shot.
- Click on "View Financial Aid" in the center of the screen
- Select the correct Aid Year ex. 2017 in the left hand side of the screen
- The loan Period is composed of the academic year, the first day of class in the fall term and the last day of classes in the spring term (August to April). The summer term has a separate loan period and its composed of the start and end date of the summer term (May-August).
- Sign the form and Send it to your lender. Always check with your lender for the possibility of signing your application electronically (E-sign) the Private Education Loan Self-Certification Form on your lender’s web site.
- Make sure that you submit all required documents to your lender for loan approval and remember to send us an email at cobfa@fiu.edu letting us know you have a private loan approval pending.
- FIU will certify the private loan in our system and you it will be posted to your account and funds will be released to you once we have receive the loan funds from your lender. Please contact your lender to get your specific loan disbursement date.
