Dr. Deanne Butchey is a Teaching Professor in the Department of Finance, Chair of FIU Faculty Senate, Member of the FIU Board of Trustees, and former Associate Dean of Accreditation at FIU Business. Her research and teaching interests include Corporate Finance and Governance, Data Analytics in Finance, FinTech, Behavioral Finance, Accreditation, and Finance pedagogy.

Deanne holds a PhD in Finance from FIU, an MBA and an Honors Bachelor of Arts in Econometrics from Canada’s York University’s Schulich School of Business, together with a general BA in Economics from University of Western Ontario. Before joining FIU, Deanne worked as an Investment Banker and Financial Services Stock Research Analyst at Credit Suisse First Boston in their Toronto offices. Prior to this, she was a stock broker at Scotia McLeod and Merrill Lynch in Toronto.

Deanne has contributed to FIU’s initiatives to engage the community in mutually beneficial ways through Service Learning in Financial Literacy.  For a course-embedded project, she has been honored with the “Spirit of Service-Learning Award” awarded by the Returned Peace Corps Volunteers of South Florida Inc. (RPCVSF), the Miami-Dade Teacher of the Year Coalition, and the Armando Alejandre Jr. Foundation. This recognition honors K-12 and college/university educators for contributing to the integration of service into the curriculum and for making a commitment to connect students through service to help meet critical needs in the South Florida and/or the global community.

Deanne’s passion is for students’ success in their pursuit of career enhancement and lifelong learning. One of the ways she accomplishes this is by engaging the students in multiple ways including facilitating case competitions, mentoring and through guest speakers. She is faculty advisor to:

  1. ENACTUS @ FIU, a student organization that aims to facilitate the impactful collaborations of students and community partners by creating, commercializing, and enhancing innovative social entrepreneurship projects to stimulate economic advancement.
  2. The Phoenician Investment Fund, a student-run initiative dedicated to further educating its members, both within and outside of the College of Business in the language of finance and investing and FMA @ FIU, closely linked to the national finance organization, FMA International.

Deanne is also a board member and treasurer of an NGO, EcoWorks International, whose mission is to “foster sustainability, prosperity and self-reliance by bringing critical resources to Haiti’s farmers, entrepreneurs and communities.” By engaging future generations in Environmental Sustainability and other Diversity, Equity and Inclusiveness initiatives, she hopes to bring about the change needed to improve productivity and leave the world better off than we found it, as verbalized by Lord Robert Baden-Powell.
