“Chris” Wilson is an IT Principal Architect and Innovation Leader in Information Technology for NextEra Energy, Inc., which is a Fortune 200 company and the world’s largest utility company with a market capitalization of over $100 billion. He has more than 30 years of experience in the energy and utilities industry with the last 25 specifically in information technology at NextEra Energy, which is the parent company of Florida Power and Light.

During his tenure at FPL, Chris has implemented several business-critical applications that produced significant operational savings for the organization and provided substantial value for its five million customers. He has a very broad range of skills including business strategy, research and development, digital transformation, enterprise architecture, IT portfolio management, vendor management, organizational change management, and contact center solutions.

On a personal level, Chris has volunteered as a chaplain for the Florida Department of Corrections for 20 years. He also serves as an administrative pastor for a local church assembly, which has a pre-school to 8th grade, and an outreach organization providing mental health and food bank services to the community. Chris is also a certified martial arts instructor in Judo and was an assistant instructor at Miami-Dade College training in its local youth program.

Relative to Florida International University, Chris was the IT project manager responsible for the implementation of a call center in the MARC building at FIU’s University Campus. This call center provides part-time jobs to FIU students, giving them the opportunity to gain real-world experiences in business. It also serves as an employment pipeline for exceptional talent from the university into FPL. It has now been active for 10 years, and a number of former students now hold leadership positions in the company. Chris has also been an avid supporter of the Information Systems program and ATOM at FIU. He served as a judge in department analytics competitions and has been working with the team to build a stronger relationship between FIU and NextEra Energy IT.

Chris received a Master’s of Science degree in Information Systems from FIU and a Bachelor’s in Business Administration from Nova Southeastern University. He also holds certifications in Project Management, Enterprise Architecture and Lean Six-Sigma.
