FIU Business welcomed two new faculty members in two departments in the fall 2025 semester.
The Department of Information Systems and Business Analytics has brought on Rong (Emily) Liu as associate professor of information systems. Liu received her PhD in information systems from Pennsylvania State University and was most recently associate professor at Stevens Institute of Technology. Before joining academia, she spent over a decade as a research staff member at IBM T. J. Watson Research Center. Her research interests include artificial intelligence, deep learning, health informatics, blockchain and financial technology. Liu has published extensively in top journals such as MIS Quarterly and Production and Operations Management, and her work has been cited more than 5,000 times. She also holds 19 patents and has secured major external funding, including a $700,000 Genesis Data Science Fellowship to support doctoral students. At FIU Business, she will teach courses on deep learning, natural language processing and business applications of large language models.
The Department of Global Leadership and Management welcomed Joel B. Carnevale as assistant professor of management. Carnevale received his PhD in management from Auburn University and was most recently associate professor at Syracuse University’s Whitman School of Management, where he served as Whitman Research Fellow. His research focuses on leadership, creativity, reputation and behavioral ethics, exploring how leaders influence employee performance, ethical decision-making and workplace relationships. Carnevale’s work has appeared in leading outlets such as the Journal of Applied Psychology, Journal of Management and Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes. He serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Management and previously was associate editor of the Journal of Business Ethics and the Journal of Business Research. Carnevale has also been recognized with multiple awards for his research productivity and contributions to the field.
