Florida International University’s College of Business (FIU Business) has received a $300,000 gift from KPMG to provide scholarships for underrepresented students in the FIU Business Master of Accounting (MAcc) program. The gift is part of the KPMG Master of Accounting with Data Analytics (MADA) Program, in which the audit, tax and advisory firm collaborates with business schools to develop curriculum-focused initiatives that include data analytics and technology. FIU Business is one three business schools recently added to the MADA program.
“Being selected by KPMG to join the MADA program is a great honor for the School of Accounting. Our partnership with KPMG will allow us to provide our students the cutting-edge knowledge in data analytics that is critical to their success in practice,” said Mark Myring, director of the FIU Business School of Accounting. “In addition, the scholarship funding will make the MAcc program more accessible to students by reducing their financial commitment.”
The $300,000 gift to FIU Business will establish the KPMG MADA Scholarship Fund. KPMG is providing more than $7 million in scholarship funding over three years to the 15 business schools participating in the MADA program to meet its goal of encouraging underrepresented minority individuals to pursue a graduate education.
“Expanding the master’s program will help close the gap between academic preparation and accounting career readiness,” said Scott Flynn, KPMG vice chair – audit. “Scholarships for diverse and underrepresented individuals will encourage them to choose our profession and enable us to invest in the future of our firm and the profession, while delivering quality and innovation long term.”
The FIU Business MAcc program is offered in the evening on campus and online with specializations in taxation and assurance. Students complete the program in 10 months.
