Flavio Carrillo

Faculty Administrator

Flavio Carrillo is a faculty administrator and director of the Capital Markets Lab.  Flavio received a Master of Music from the University of Miami, Coral Gables in 1996, a Master of Business Administration from Florida International University with a concentration in Finance in 2004 and a Master of Science in Finance in 2004.  He is a member of Beta Gamma Sigma, the honor society serving business programs accredited by AACSB International – The Association of Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.

Professional  Experience

Flavio, a former teacher of Miami-Dade County Public Schools, is actively involved in education as well as in the financial industry.  As an educator, he teaches a financial management course at the College of Business and is involved in the development and implementation of the lab’s financial literacy curriculum.  Given his passion for teaching and prior experience as a high school teacher, he actively participates in the lab’s many instructional sessions, especially those involving high school students.

Flavio is also the founder and President of Microsigma Capital Management, LLC, a Registered Investment Advisor affiliated with Raymond James’ Investment Advisors Division.  Microsigma, a quantitative focused investment firm in operation since 2006, specializes in the construction of optimal (Mean-Variance) portfolios via the utilization of money managers.  

Katherine Grau

Lab Manager

Katherine Grau is the program manager for the SunTrust FIU Financial Wellness Clinic. She is the lead instructor for financial literacy workshops delivered to various student groups at Florida International University. Katherine manages a team of student assistants and SunTrust Fellows who work in the community to prepare high school students for today’s competitive job market. This involves researching innovative ways to effectively integrate contemporary financial strategies with classroom discussion and by merging conceptual basics with a “hands-on” approach, to enhance student learning while encouraging creativity and innovation in financial decision-making. She will be receiving an MBA with a concentration in Business Analytics from Florida International University in July 2018.
