Tuition Breakdown

Course fees are applied to student accounts per term as students are enrolled in their courses.  Students must also pay the additional university fees applied per term. These are mandatory charges that fund important services provided at the university.

  • Distance Learning fee -  This is assessed only for online courses, which are courses that are designed and developed specifically to be delivered online. Faculty designing the courses leverage dedicated online instructional designers and educational technologies reserved for fully online courses. Students access the course 24/7. The Distance Learning fee funds the infrastructure and team that helps deliver these courses.
  • Health fee - These funds pay for several services made available to all students, such as  Student Health ClinicCounseling and Psychological ServicesVictim Empowerment ProgramDisability Resource Center, and  Healthy Living Program.
  • Athletics fee – Helps to support costs athletic programs available to all students, along with fixed costs such as staffing, operations and maintenance of our sports facilities, including the FIU Football Stadium which was constructed with proceeds from the issuance of bonds that must be repaid.

Payment Deadlines

Tuition and fees balance applied for each term must be paid in full by the official University deadline as specified on the academic calendar. Payment is usually due within one week of the first day of class.

Late payments may assess a late payment fee and possible enrollment cancellation for the term.

How to Pay for Classes

  • Credit/debit cards and electronic checks

    Payable online through the  "Make a Payment" link found under the "Finances" section of your my.fiu.edu portal. The University charges a convenience fee for credit card transactions.

  • Cash or check payments

    Accepted at the Student Financials Office in the Student Academic Success Center (SASC), Room 101 (MMC). Self-service payment kiosks are also located in SASC.

  • International wire transfers

    Coordinated through FIU’s partnership with Flywire, to offer a more streamlined and cost effective payment method. For more information, please contact the Student Financials Office at 305.348.2126 or stufinan@fiu.edu sending wire transfers.

Accepting Award Payments

Domestic students must accept their financial aid award prior to the tuition payment deadline specified on the academic calendar. This may be done through the student online portal, my.fiu.edu
