Program Scholarship

A student from our Professional MBA Downtown program will be selected for a $7,500 scholarship each Fall term. This is not a cash incentive. The $7,500 scholarship will be credited to the selected student’s tuition.

Who Can Apply

To be selected as a Professional MBA scholarship recipient an applicant must have a four-year bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, applied to a Professional MBA program and an upper-division GPA of 3.45 or higher.

How to Apply

Prospective applicants to the Professional MBA scholarship must submit a one-page supplemental essay, double-spaced and 12-point font. The essay must address the following question:

Describe a process in your current workplace that can be improved upon. What changes would you implement to make the process more efficient?

To submit your Professional MBA scholarship essay, please email it as an attachment to our Professional MBA inbox ( and note "Professional MBA Scholarship Essay" in the subject line. Please include your full name as well.

Selection Criteria

The scholarship selection committee will evaluate the supplemental essay and the MBA application materials for academic and career potential, relevancy of prior work experience and academic preparation.

Deadline: August 5th

The recipient of the Professional MBA scholarship will be notified prior to the program’s orientation.


The prospective Professional MBA scholarship recipient must be FULLY ADMITTED for eligibility.

The scholarship is not transferable and there shall be no changes or substitutions. All current graduate students and employees of Florida International University are not eligible to apply for the Professional MBA scholarship.


Within one (1) week after the selection, FIU will make all reasonable attempts to notify the Professional MBA scholarship recipient in writing, via email. If the Professional MBA scholarship recipient cannot be contacted after reasonable attempts or fails to confirm the Professional MBA scholarship award within fifteen (15) days of the selection date, another recipient will be selected and notified. FIU is not responsible for incorrect information submitted during the application process.

By applying for this scholarship, all prospects grant FIU the right to reprint, distribute and/or use their name, picture and/or likeness in any press release, advertisements, promotion and promotional materials.

Additional Scholarships & Funding Resources

There are a number of scholarship opportunities provided through the generosity of both individuals and corporations. Most scholarships are awarded in the summer for the following academic year.

Scholarship award will vary in amount, depending on the scholarship, the qualifications of the recipient, and the number of qualified applicants. To be eligible to apply for scholarships, applicants must be seeking a degree in a program offered within the college.

American Indian Services Scholarship

  • Up to $2,000
  • February 1st, May 1st, August 1st, November 1st

Four scholarships per year are awarded to degree-seeking students who are at least one-quarter enrolled member of a Native American tribe recognized by the federal government. Applicants may be studying on a part- or full-time basis.

Graduate Scholarships

  • Up to $2,000
  • April 4th

This scholarship is made available to full- and part-time graduate students who are enrolled in a tribe or have at least one parent who is. Learners must have at least a 2.5 GPA and online courses are not accepted.

Prospanica Scholarship

The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute  
This premier scholarship opportunity is afforded to Latino students who have a history of performing public service-oriented activities in their communities and who plan to continue contributing in the future. Students with excellent leadership potential are encouraged to apply.

Hispanic Scholarship Fund
The Hispanic Scholarship Fund collaborates with foundations, institutions and other partners in the non-profit sector at every level in order to advance our urgent mission of reversing the pattern of Latino under-education.

American Indian Graduate Center
To be considered for an AIGC fellowship the applicant must be: pursuing a post baccalaureate graduate or professional degree as a full time student at an accredited institution in the U.S., able to demonstrate financial need, and an enrolled member of a federally recognized American Indian tribe or Alaska Native group, or provide documentation of descent (possess one-fourth degree federally-recognized Indian blood).

Minorities in Government Finance Scholarship
The Government Finance Officers Association offers a Minorities in Government Finance Scholarship of $5,000, awarded to outstanding U.S. and Canadian minority students preparing for careers in state and local government finance.

Funding for Female Students

American Association of Univeristy Women  
AAUW awards fellowships to underrepresented minority women who intend to pursue a full-time course of study in an MBA program. Award amounts range from $5,000 to $12,000.

Funding for Veterans

Post-9/11 GI Bill  
The new Post 9/11 GI Bill provides education benefits for service members who have served on active duty for 90 or more days since Sept. 10, 2001. These benefits are tiered based on the number of days served on active duty, creating a benefit package that gives current and previously activated National Guard and Reserve members the same benefits as active duty service members.

Montgomery G.I. Bill
The Montgomery G.I. Bill is intended for veterans who entered the service after July 1, 1985, served two years of continuous active duty, accepted a $100-a-month reduction in their military pay for the first twelve months of service, and received an honorable discharge.

Funding for LGBT Students

Point Foundation  
Point Foundation provides financial support, mentoring, leadership training and hope to meritorious students who are marginalized due to sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression.

IIE, which seeks to foster educational exchange, has great resources for exchange students.

IEFA is the premier resource for financial aid, college scholarship, and grant information for US and international students wishing to study abroad. International Research and Exchanges Board 
IREX administers various fellowships for non-degree studies as well as one- and two-year graduate degree studies in the US for foreign nationals within 11 areas of study.  Their international student loan program is designed to increase the opportunities for international students who wish to study at approved colleges and universities.
