Applicants to the MIB must have the following

  • Hold a four-year Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university,.
  • Have a minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0.

Admission decisions are competitive. Meeting admissions standards does not guarantee admission.

  • Score a minimum of 500 on the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) or 304 on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE).

A GMAT waiver at the discretion of the academic director is available for:

  • Applicants with two years of demonstrative work experience and success in completing other academic programs
  • Applicants who have an undergraduate business or related degree (economics, hospitality management, etc.) with an upper division grade point average (GPA) of 3.25, or higher
  • Applicants without a business or related degree having an upper division grade GPA of 3.35, or higher
  • If the applicant has already completed a graduate degree from an accredited university with a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.0, or is entering a business master's program under a special agreement for admissions with specific foreign and domestic universities

If you earned your Bachelor Degree in a country whose official language is not English, you must demonstrate English proficiency by taking either the TOEFL or IELTS. The minimum scores for all accepted exams are as follows:

  • IELTS: 6.5
  • TOEFL:
    • Paper-based: 550
    • Computer-based: 213
    • Internet-based(iBT): 80

Official transcript (an official record of a student’s work, showing courses taken and grades achieved) from all previously attended colleges and/or universities. Transcripts must be sent directly to FIU by all formerly attended institutions in a sealed university envelope.

  • If the language of instruction at your institution was not English, then you must provide the original-language copies of all transcripts and diplomas as described above.
  • Foreign educational credentials: Our Office of Admissions evaluates foreign credentials internally as part of the admission process at no cost to the applicant. If not in English, a translation from a recognized translation agency or a certified translator is also required.
  • Official proof of degree: Applicants with foreign educational credentials must provide a copy of the original diploma. If not in English, it must be accompanied by a translation from a recognized translation agency or a certified translator. For domestic students, a photocopy of the diploma is required if degree is not posted on official transcripts.
  • Some suggested agencies are found on the University Graduate School website.
  • If you have less than two years of professional experience, you must earn a score of at least 500 on the GMAT or at least a 304 on the GRE. Scores are considered official when sent by the testing center directly to our school.

TOEFL or IELTS SCORES: Scores are considered official when sent by the testing center directly to our school. Minimum scores for the TOEFL are: 550 paper-based, 213 computer-based, and 80 internet-based. The minimum score for the IELTS is 6.5. When requesting the official scores, please refer to the Florida International University Institution code 5206.

Detailing your chronological professional experience, and dates of earned degrees. Internships and part-time employment may be included.

Short essay that describes why you want to obtain an advanced international business education, and how the MIB program fits within your personal and career goals.

From academic or professional references. Must be from academic and/or professional references and must include contact information.

As part of the admission process, a video is required. Please create a video discussing the following:

  • Tell us about yourself
  • Why you are interested in the MIB program
  • Why at FIU
  • Career plans or goals for the next 5-10 years
The video must be uploaded to YouTube and can be saved as “unlisted” or on Google Drive. You will need to create a YouTube or Gmail account if you do not have one. The video cannot exceed 5 minutes and you must be physically present 100% of the time. Please send the email link to mib@fiu.edu and we will add it to your file.

At the discretion of the Admission Committee, an interview will be required as well. The interview is a positive indicator of interest, but is not a guarantee of admission; it serves as one element among many that are considered as we complete a final review of your candidacy. All interviews are conducted by invitation only, at the discretion of the Admissions Board. If invited, however, you must participate in order to complete the application process.

Interviews may be scheduled on campus or via Skype. Neither the timing of your interview invitation nor its format, whether in-person or via Skype, implies anything about the status of your application or affects your candidacy.

Interviews are 15 minutes and are conducted by the Master of International business Leadership Committee who has reviewed your application. Your interview will be tailored to you and is designed for us to learn more about you in the context of a conversation.

Application Process

To apply for the program:

  1. Please click here to initiate your graduate application. Select on “Create a new user Account”
  2. Enter the program name Master of International Business in Intended Major field in the online admission form.
  3. There is a non-refundable application fee of US $30.00.

You must submit a complete application packet to be considered. You don’t need to wait until you have all materials together to apply. Submit your online application now and simply send the rest of the materials as you complete them.

  1. Official transcripts from all previously attended colleges and/or universities. The original transcripts must be in a sealed enveloped (unopened) from the issuing institution. If your official transcripts are not in English, a second copy of the transcript must be translated by an official translation agency and sent to our mailing address above. Ask the University to provide two copies of transcripts: the first set must come to us in a sealed envelope. The second set may be sent to a translation agency.   6. 2 Letters of Recommendation: From academic or professional references. Must be from academic and/or professional references and must include contact information.

  7. Interview: Applicants will be required prior to the final selection to either:
    -Participate and pass an interview with the MIB leadership ream; or
    -Submit a 5 minute video where the applicant is physically visible throughout the video..

  8. If you earned your Bachelor Degree in a country whose official language is not English, you must demonstrate English proficiency by taking either the TOEFL or IELTS. TOEFL or IELTS SCORES: Scores are considered official when sent by the testing center directly to our school. International Student Requirements

Please familiarize yourself with the requirements of the University Graduate School and the Office of International Students and Scholar Services. You are responsible for compliance with any and all University requirements. International applications who require an F-1 Visa will be required to submit these additional documents to complete their application package:

  1. Bank Letter

  2. Sponsor Letter (Waived if applicant is sponsoring self)

  3. DCF form The Declaration and Certification of Finances must be completed and returned to Graduate Admissions. If you have Internet access, it’s fastest to complete the DCF form online. Once completed, please print it and return it.

  4. F1 Transfer Form (If needed) F-1 students transferring from another institution in the United States must provide a copy of the F-1 Student Transfer Form with a suitable release date from his/her current institution.

  5. Proof of Medical Insurance By Board of Trustees and university rule, all international students at FIU in F-1 and J-1 status are required to have medical insurance prior to registration. Proof must be submitted to the Health Compliance Office at University Health Services. You will NOT be allowed to register for classes without complying with the medical insurance requirement and will receive a hold on your registration.

    The medical insurance requirement can be met in one of two ways:

    • By purchasing the University-approved policy.

    • By submitting an International Student Health Insurance Compliance Form completed by your current insurance company and approved by UHS

    The cost of this insurance is not covered by the program’s tuition and fees. For information on program coverage and alternate compliance, please visit the University Health Services Medical Insurance Policy for International Students page.

A Certificate of Eligibility for Non-Immigrant Students (Form I-20) will be issued once the applicant has been found admissible to the University and the Declaration and Certification of Finances have been approved.

The University is required by immigration authorities to check carefully the financial resources of each applicant prior to issuing the Form I-20. Therefore, it is important that you be aware of the cost of participating in the program and have the necessary support and funding for your period of enrollment. The total funds available for the entire program must equal the total estimate of institutional costs and living expenses for the duration of the program (Estimate of $55,767 for the academic year). Please make sure that you provide us with sufficient proof of funds for at least this amount.

International students must have an I-20 in order to secure F-1 status and participate in the program. Students must secure an F-1 Visa from the U.S. consular in their home country in order to enter the U.S.
