Admission Requirements

Our Master of Science in Information Systems candidates are highly motivated professionals intent on reaching that next level of leadership success. Admissions decisions can be quite competitive. Admission to the Master of Science in Information Systems program is based on a variety of factors and will be evaluated holistically. Our admissions team carefully screens each application to ensure candidates are an optimal fit for the program demands and objectives. 

In order to meet admissions requirements, you must meet ONE of the options listed below:

Option 1

You must have earned your bachelor’s degree with a minimum 3.0-grade point average in the last 60 credits of your undergraduate study and have at least four years of relevant professional experience in Information Systems, Information Technology, Business Analytics or Project Management. There is no GMAT/GRE required for this option.

Option 2

You must have earned your bachelor’s degree with a minimum 3.0-grade point average in the last 60 credits of your undergraduate study, and achieve a competitive Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) or Graduate Record Exam (GRE) score (a minimum of 500 on the GMAT exam or a minimum combined score of 297 on the GRE exam is generally competitive). FIU university’s code is 5206.

Option 3

You are pursuing a second master’s degree. You must have already obtained a master’s degree from an accredited college or university. You must have earned your bachelor’s degree with a minimum 3.0-grade point average in the last 60 credits, and earned your master’s degree with a 3.0-grade point average. Acceptance to the program under this option requires final departmental approval.

Application Process

  • Complete the Graduate Admission Application. Select “Create User Account” (Unless you have created one previously). Complete all required fields.
  • There is a non-refundable application fee of US $30.00.

  1. Official transcripts from all previously attended colleges and/or universities. If the official transcripts are not in English, a second copy of the transcript must be evaluated by an official translation agency that is accredited by NACES and sent to our mailing address above.

  2. Official proof of degree. A notarized copy of the original diploma is required if the degree is not posted on the official transcript(s).

  3. Your resume. Include any IT experience, especially if you do not have a Bachelor in Information Systems/Technology.

  4. Statement of purpose. Please note there is no minimum or maximum word or page count. The document should outline your objectives in pursuing this graduate degree.

  5. Recommendation letters (Optional)

  6. Applicants whose studies where completed in a country whose official language is not English must demonstrate English proficiency by taking either the TOEFL or IELTS – a University list of exemptions is available here. These tests are available worldwide. There is a fee for the examination.
    Minimum scores for the TOEFL are: 80 internet-based, 550 paper-based, and 213 computer-based. Minimum score for the IELTS is 6.5.   7. Proof of US residency/citizenship

Florida Residents: Two proofs of residency. Documents must be dated one year prior to the term you are seeking admissions. For a list of acceptable documents please click here.

International Applicants

If you are an international applicant, you must also submit the additional documents listed below:

  1. Submit a completed and signed Declaration of Finances (DCF) form. Please note that the minimum amount in the DCF must be at least $53,600 for 2017-2018 academic year.

  2. Bank letter has to reflect $53,600.

  3. Sponsor letter (if applicable).
