Hortensia E. Sampedro is the Marketing Partner for GH Growth Advisors, a consulting partnership
specializing in practical growth strategies for middle market companies with complex problems.
Previously, Hortensia was a multi-national banking executive with the Chase Manhattan Bank, NY, CMB,
and Chief Marketing and Communications Officer with Morrison, Brown, Argiz & Farra, LLP, MBAF,
where she led creative internet communications and website initiatives.
Hortensia earned an MBA in Finance from New York University ’83 and a BBA in Economics and Latin
American Studies from the University of Miami ’72 and attended the Harvard Business School’s First
Program in Government, Economics and International Business in 1980. She uses HBS cases and
methodology in her classes at the Honors College on Corporate Strategy, Disruptive Innovation and
Simulations for Success. Her career experience is rich in interdisciplinary and complex challenges.
As one of the first four women accepted into the prestigious Chase Credit Training Program in 1972,
Hortensia rose through the ranks at CMB, then the third largest banking institution in the world, and
served as the first female and/or first Latin minority, male or female, in progressively responsible positions
in the 1970s and 1980s in credit, lending, managerial and executive ranks. Hortensia was involved in key
events including OPEC and CVP–Venezuela, global country risk assessment, sovereign and private
sector debt renegotiations (Mexico and Venezuela), the Brady Plan concept, internal email development,
client systems platforms for master trust/custody, and other technological applications.
As an active volunteer, Hortensia has served numerous non-profit organizations, including the CINTAS
Foundation for over 32 years, a unique non-profit organization established in 1963, known as the “quiet
Nobel Prize” for Cuban Arts and the Humanities, the only organization of its kind; past president of US
Sailing Foundation (RI), and has served on the boards of Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart, Center
for Inter-American Relations (NY), Lowe Art Gallery, Florida Philharmonic Orchestra, USCG Auxiliary, and
the Key Biscayne Yacht Club (Commodore, 58th Watch), among others
