Professional Activities

Dr. Sengupta earned his doctorate in Computer Science from Indiana University, Bloomington, and a B.Tech. in Computer Science and Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur. Prior to joining FIU, Dr. Sengupta served as Associate Dean and Professor at Wright State University as well as faculty at Indiana University and Georgia State University. Dr. Sengupta's research interests are in databases and data modeling, student performance and engagement, application of mobile technologies, Radio-Frequency Identification, and Human-Computer Interfaces.

Dr. Sengupta manages all FIU Business accreditation activities related to the AACSB and SACS Accreditation processes, as well as provides assistance to the program directors and faculty to perform research, assessment, and assurance of learning activities. In addition, Dr. Sengupta manages the Technology Systems team that develops and maintains all FIU Business technology initiatives, including but not limited to databases, financial systems, CRM systems, faculty activity reporting systems, and other internally developed systems. 

Dr. Sengupta teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses, including data structures, database management, mobile application development, supply chain management, systems analysis and design, telecommunications, and web services. Further, he earned five consecutive Outstanding Information Systems and Operations Management Teaching Awards from 2008 through 2012. Dr. Sengupta has published over twenty scholarly, peer-reviewed articles over the course of his career in addition to three refereed practitioner journal papers and over thirty conference proceeding papers.
