Professional Activities

Professor Suzanne Hollander, JD, is an Associate Teaching Professor at FIU’s Hollo School of Real Estate, Bringing the real world of real estate into the classroom, Professor Hollander served as the City of Miami's Director of Real Estate & Asset Management managing an estimated US$17.5 Billon real estate portfolio, comprised of over 513 properties, 139 Million SF of islands, shopping centers, 3 marinas of over 1,200 boat slips, hotels, retail, multifamily, office buildings, theaters and land. Professor Hollander oversaw a US$30 Million real estate operating budget, 50 employees, commercial leasing, acquisitions and public private partnerships P3.

The United States Dearpt of Stae appointed Professor Hollande rot its Fulbright Specialist liste as a Real Estate Expert.  During 2022, Professor Hollander conduced on-site reserach on the impact of COVID on real estate in Brazil, Peru, Argentina, Chile and Paraguay and met with property owners across Latin America.

Professor Hollander has advised private investors and government entities throughout the U.S. and Latin America on urban and regional development/finance, strategies to meet demand for housing and natural resources, real estate developments’ impact on regional economies, commercial leasing, entitlements for large scale development, and, as a a result of her work, the U.S. State Department appointed her to its Fulbright Specialist Roster as an Expert in Real Estate.

Professor Hollander has taught thousands of students.  At FIU, Professor Hollander, teaches real estate law and has led commercial real estate industry events for over 13 years, and is Program Director of the Office to Advance Women Equity Diversity. Professor Hollander has taught real estate law at New York University Schack Institute of Real Estate and teaches throughout the U.S. and Latin America.

Professor Hollander is a frequent speaker in English, Spanish and Portuguese on real estate, property rights and development in the U.S. and Latin America and her commentary appears in media such as the Wall Street Journal, CBS News and WLRN Radio, among others.

Recognized by OTSO as a National Woman in Commercial Real Estate in 2023, South Florida Business and Wealth as a Prestigious Woman in 2021, by Globestreet as a Woman of Influence in Commercial Real Estate in 2019, and by Commercial Real Estate Women Network as Global Impact Award Winner in 2018; Professor Hollander also serves on the Boards of Housing on Merit, RiskFootprint, Commercial Real Estate Women (CREW), 100 Women in Finance and C.R.E.A.T.E. Wealth Network and the Brazilian Alternative Investments Committee.

Professor Hollander graduated from Dartmouth College, cum laude, and earned her Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Miami School of Law, magna cum laude, where she was awarded a full three-year scholarship for academic and professional excellence.
