Professional Activities

Professor Chacar is an expert on Global Business Strategy at the College of Business of Florida International University (Ranked by the US News & World Report as #2 in international business and #3 International MBA). She studies  the impact of institutions on global business strategy, firm performance, leadership, and value appropriation. She is the Past chair of the Academy of Management International Management (IM) Division and member of the Executive Committee (Board).  She serves or has served on the boards of the Journal of International Business Studies,  Industry & Innovation, Strategic Organization, and Childrens of Lebanon - a not for profit organization dedicated to serving children of Lebanon. Previously she was an Assistant Professor at the London Business School, and has taught or had visiting appointments at INSEAD, H.E.C., Ohio State University, UCLA, the University of Utah and Balamand University. 


Professor Chacar earned her PhD from UCLA. Her most recent research focuses on the role of institutions in international business and strategy. This and other research has been published in the Strategic Management Journal, the Journal of International Business Studies, the Journal of Management Studies, and numerous other publications.  It has received many accolades, including Best Paper Awards, from the Academy of International Business -AIB, the Academy of Management -AOM, and the Strategic Management Society -SMS, and has been featured in the New Yorker in work by Malcolm Gladwell. She has received many  awards and grants including awards from CIBER and the Kauffman Foundation. Her PhD students have also won best paper and proposal awards. She has taught in various face-to-face and online executive and graduate programs and company-specific programs and has received the Best Course Award. She has taught various topics in strategy, international business and strategic human resources. She also disseminates some of her ideas on Linkedin and founded the Global Business Strategy group on Facebook to increase global awareness and understanding of the topic. 

 

Professor Chacar is committed to service and has served the field in numerous leadership roles. Among others, she has served as the Research Capacity Workshop co-chair and the Research Committee Chair at the AIB meeting; in 2016, as the AIB Junior Faculty Consortium co-chair; in 2015 as PDW Chair for IM; in 2014 as track chairwoman at the 2014 AIB conference and chair of the AOM IM Division Junior Faculty Consortium; in 2011 as the Associate Chair for the Strategic Management Society Meeting in Miami 2011, and other. She also serves on, or has served on, numerous university committees including Screen and Search, and Ph.D. programs, and chairs the Research Committee, organizing a seminar series for London Business School and for the South Florida Community for over 10 years.
