Professional Activities

Dr. Sungu Armagan is a Teaching Professor in the area of Organizational Behavior in the Global Leadership and Management (GLAM) Department at the College of Business at Florida International University. She received her Ph.D. from The University of Utah in Business Administration - Organizational Behavior minoring in Social Psychology. She is the creator of the popular undergraduate course on “Happiness at Work” in the College of Business. She is also the Faculty Advisor for the ECO Influencers Biz Club at FIU, which is a chapter of ECO Planet Earth. ECO Planet Earth is an environmental conservation organization that brings together the fields of entrepreneurship, business, leadership, and sustainability to help humans, animals, and the earth. In addition, she is the Faculty Advisor for AIESEC in Miami at FIU, which is a chapter of AIESEC that is in over 110 countries where future international leaders are developed through international internship, teaching, and volunteering opportunities.

Dr. Armagan teaches in the areas of Happiness at Work, Professional Skill Development, Organizational Behavior, Organization and Management, and (International) Negotiations at undergraduate and graduate levels. She won the best professor award from the Chapman Graduate School of Business at Florida International University (class of 2009 – Downtown MBA and MBA for Public Managers). Dr. Armagan is a workshop leader and trainer for executives, managers, and non-managerial employees working at for-profit and non-profit organizations on personal and workplace happiness, as well as executive negotiations. She speaks at professional events in various capacities both within and outside of FIU on personal and workplace happiness and executive negotiations. In addition, with the support of FIU Business and the GLAM department she is a part of, she helps organize events around personal and workplace happiness/joy, working with various for-profit and nonprofit partners and units within and outside FIU. Furthermore, she is currently a trainee in the iPEC certified coach training program under continuing education at FIU. She is genuinely passionate about developing others to become the most successful and joyful versions of themselves personally and at work and live lives of productivity, joy, giving back, health, and overall well-being.

Dr. Armagan is the author of the “Happiness Healthbook” e-textbook that came out in 2023. It contains 20+ chapters of fun, wholesome, and educational content including poll questions, journaling/exercises, educational images, popular quotes, and quiz questions per chapter. It can be used as a textbook or a popular book. She designed her book to elevate how one feels even as one reads the chapters and assimilates the material.

Dr. Armagan’s research interests include happiness at work. In addition, she is interested in understanding temporal issues in group decision-making situations, including negotiations. Furthermore, she is interested in the role membership changes play in groups. Her research interests also extend to the cross-cultural study of groups and negotiations. She has presented her research at a number of national and international academic meetings, such as those of Academy of Management and Academy of International Business. She has been awarded grants from the Center for International Business Education and Research (CIBER), Western Academy of Management, and the University of Utah to pursue her research on groups and negotiating dyads in intra- and cross-cultural contexts. Dr. Armagan’s research has appeared in publications such as the International Journal of Organizational Analysis, International Journal of Cross-Cultural Management, the edited volume of Research on Managing Groups and Teams: National Culture & Groups, and Brazilian Administration Review. She also won a best paper award previously from the Academy of Management Conference.
