Ashley O’Kurley

Ashley O’Kurley is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ practitioner who works primarily with individuals, families and closely-held businesses to help create a level of financial well-being through the many changes we encounter as we proceed through the different decades of our lives.  For Ashley, helping people navigate the often daunting financial decisions that need to be made during the different stages of life is a vocational calling.  While he was studying economics as an undergraduate, Ashley began applying his increasing knowledge of the financial world to help his parents better organize and plan for their financial future.  Upon witnessing the improvements that ensued in his parents’ financial position, he became a lifelong believer in the value of applying the principles of financial planning for the benefit of ourselves and the people we love.

After graduating with an Economics degree from the University of Alberta, O’Kurley worked in the public sector before commencing life as a Financial Planner.  His public service involved a short stint in the Canadian military followed by work in intergovernmental affairs and as a communications and economic policy advisor to a former Prime Minister of Canada.  For more than a decade, he has believed that integrating financial planning principles into clients’ lives helps to better formulate their objectives, augment their financial awareness, hone their decision-making skills, and craft the means by which they realize their dreams and those of the people that matter most to them.  A graduate of FIU’s Master of International Business program, O’Kurley has remained deeply attached to FIU for more than 15 years as a lifetime member of the Alumni Association, a volunteer contributing to the development of emerging leaders in his Fraternity, and as a Financial Planner serving a number of FIU employees and Alumni.

In addition to his work as an Adjunct Instructor at Florida International University, Mr. O’Kurley has also been invited to speak on financial topics to incoming FIU employees as well as graduate students in the College of Business and the College of Medicine.  Numerous media outlets have quoted him on a wide-range of issues in recent years, including MONEY magazine, the Miami Herald, Financial Planning magazine, Investor’s Business Daily,, and others.  He has served on the Board of Directors of the Financial Planning Association of Miami for many years and was recently elected to serve as President of the Financial Planning Association of Florida.  His devotion to the evolution of the Financial Planning profession is grounded in a philosophy of service based on the values of Objectivity, Transparency, Integrity, Prudence, Diligence, Competence, and Inclusiveness.

A lifetime sports enthusiast, Ashley played football in college and currently coaches his son’s ice hockey team.  Before parenthood, Ashley’s love of travel took him to all 48 continental States.  Since becoming parents, Ashley and his wife Sandra enjoy reading to both of their children while the rare commodity known as “personal time” would likely find Ashley watching a film by one of his favorite directors, dreaming of the next travel adventure, or trying his best to sing and play guitar.
