FIU Business has launched an expansion of its Condominium Board Member Training Certificate Program to include condominium managers across Florida and beyond. The new Chartered Condominium / HOA Manager (CCHOAM™) Certificate Program builds upon the college’s successful training course for condo board members, offering a more comprehensive and immersive learning experience for condo managers.
With an estimated time-commitment of 55 to 60 hours, the self-paced online course is designed to meet the growing demand for well-rounded, knowledgeable professionals who can lead community associations through increasingly complex challenges. The new program expands significantly on the eight-hour board member training FIU Business introduced in 2023.
“We know condo safety reform has had a huge impact on owners, board members and managers of residential communities,” said William Hardin, dean of FIU Business. “This is why we continue to address the needs of these business leaders, by constantly adapting and enhancing our programs.”
The program, developed by Patrick Hohman, a licensed Florida community association manager with decades of real-world experiences, emphasizes the importance of understanding the finances and long-term sustainability of residential communities, not just the day-to-day operations. In addition to instruction by Hohman, the condominium and HOA manager program features expert insight from Florida-based attorneys, CPAs and insurance professionals, adding region-specific depth to its curriculum.
Vanessa Conde, managing partner at Insight Community Solutions, participated in the condo board member program and called it “both valuable and thoughtfully designed.”
“It clearly laid out the expectations, roles and responsibilities of board members in a way that was easy to follow, especially for those new to community governance,” Conde said. “A robust program is not only appropriate, it’s essential. I can confidently say that this type of investment in education could be transformational.”
Since completing the original course, Conde has continued into her fourth year as board member in her community, launched her own consulting firm to help associations stabilize operations and improve governance, and earned her Licensed Community Association Manager (LCAM) license.
“Board service is far more important than many realize, not because it’s glamorous of powerful, but because it carries real and weighty responsibility,” Conde said. “There’s no longer room for guesswork or uninformed decisions.”
The FIU Business condo manager program is structured into three modules covering proactive management, financial sustainability, and leadership in diverse residential communities. Participants gain access to templates, real-world examples, renovation checklists and communication tools to support them on the job.
The program is open to community association managers, property management professionals, board support staff, and anyone preparing for a leadership role in condo or HOA environments.
