ATOM Pink Tank Program

Empowering Women in STEM Careers

BankUnited Partnership

In partnership with BankUnited, FIU Business launched its inaugural "Pink Tank Program," led by the directors of the ATOM Think Tank; a technology-focused organization run by faculty from the Department of Information Systems and Business Analytics (ISBA)!

The ATOM Pink Tank is a six-month leadership development program that creates a space for female students in STEM, to increase their awareness of the possibilities that exist in this male-dominated STEM. Throughout the program, students build on their technical and leadership skills as they work on special projects geared towards designing solutions to real-world business challenges, while being mentored by senior-level STEM business executives. At the end of the program, students compete in a hackathon style challenge, with the chance to win scholarship awards, applied towards their tuition.

“Investigating the Impact of the Covid‐19 Pandemic on Women working in STEM careers in South Florida”

The 2020-2021 Pink Tank program operated under the theme “Investigating the Impact of the Covid‐19 Pandemic on Women working in STEM careers in South Florida.” The program’s final challenge involved small collaborative student teams, presented with real data sets and challenged to analyze the issues specifically impacting professional women in STEM as heightened by the pandemic, then propose unique and practical solutions of how organizations and women themselves may respond to address these challenges. This real-world experiential learning approach gave students the opportunity to pitch their innovative solutions in front of business executives at BankUnited, and the FIU community of leaders, faculty, staff and students.
