ATOM Pink Tank Final Presentations and Closing Ceremony
Monday, Mach 29, 2021
1:00pm – 3:00 pm

“Investigating the Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on Women in STEM careers in South Florida!”

ATOM Pink Tank student participants will collaborate in teams to create innovative solutions that address real-world challenges centering around equity, diversity and inclusion in South Florida companies, under the theme  “Investigating the Impact of the Covid-19 Pandemic on Women in STEM careers in South Florida!”

Studies have reported that the disruption of the COVID-19 pandemic created a “ Shecession” in which working women disproportionately experienced the worst effects of the COVID-19 recession. The goal of the ATOM Pink Tank project is to investigate the experiences faced by women working in STEM-related careers in South Florida during the disruption of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Student teams will collect and analyze data to provide insights about:

  • Major issues working women in South Florida face because of the COVID-19 Pandemic
  • The differing nature and scope uniquely faced by these women, in contrast to their male counterparts

Student teams will also create proposals to:

  • Suggest initiatives/innovative practices to mitigate these challenges and help women cope and succeed in the “new normal” workplace environment
  • Recommend how organizations can act on this opportunity to reinvent themselves in order to thrive in an environment of greater uncertainty and unpredictability

Stipends

Each student will receive a $750 stipend to gather the tools/resources in preparation for the final presentations.

Awards

  • First-place winners will each be awarded a $1,000 scholarship
  • Second-place winners will each be awarded a $500 scholarship
