AIS 2020 Analytics Challenge Pre-Competition Hosted by ATOM
Summary of the Task
Student teams may submit for either the analytics challenge or the case study challenge.

SCHOLASTIC analytics challenge: What will the children’s book market look like in the future? [data and more information can be found on the AIS student leadership conference website]
- What trends do you see in the data, among / demographics, genre/ theme, and price?
- What does the data suggest about Scholastic’s distribution channels, and how would you recommend structuring a distribution strategy?
- What other publicly available data can you append (Census, state, region, etc.), to provide further insight?
- Formulate a unified strategy for marketing between the two channels.
- Identify areas of significant overlap between the channels ; what strategy do you suggest to prevent unintentional competition between channels?

Computational Society Case Study challenge: Choose one from three case study scenarios: [more detail can be found on the AIS student leadership conference website]
- Retail analytics and automation of choice – how are technologies being used to automate retail, and how is analytics transforming retail?
- Artificial Intelligence (AI) and analytics to unravel individual choice – how are AI and analytics being used to unravel individual choice behavior?
- Artificial intelligence (AI), computational technologies, and individual well-being – how are increasing capabilities of modern technologies influencing individual and social well-being?
A student may participate on more than one team. A team may submit more than one entry, but each entry must be for one challenge only - submit a separate entry for each challenge your team chooses to analyze.

Participation is open to all currently enrolled FIU students.
Important Dates
- February 9, 2020 – ATOM challenge submissions due.
- February 18, 2020 – Finalists present in person to judging panel.
- February 18, 2020 – ATOM challenge winners announced.
- February 18, 2020 – Networking opportunity.
- February 21, 2020 – Deadline for student teams to submit to the AIS student chapter competition.
