Students Earn Academic Excellence Award at HSI Battle of the Brains
Six FIU students won the prestigious Academic Excellence Award for their outstanding performance in the Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSI) Battle of the Brains competition, a 24-hour innovation challenge sponsored by global accounting firm KPMG in early 2025. The team was recognized for “Best Deliverable” among the 18 competing universities.

Business Analytics Team Takes Third Place in National Competition
A team of four business analytics students at FIU Business earned third place in the PNC FinTech Challenge during the 2025 AIS Student Leadership Conference in March 2025. The annual conference brings together top students from across the country to compete in challenges spanning fintech, cybersecurity, sustainability and software development.

Healthcare MBA Students Score Second Place in Healthcare Business Leaders Strategy Competition
Competing against top institutions including the University of Florida and the University of Miami, the FIU team walked away with a $2,000 prize and praise for their strategic proposal addressing real-world healthcare challenges faced by tech-forward virtual care company Included Health.

Global Sales Competition Brings 14 Universities to FIU Business
For the first time in history, 14 universities made it to the semi-finals to face-off in-person at FIU Business for the annual Global Bilingual Sales Competition in March of 2025. Sponsored by HubSpot, the event offered students a chance to secure the first-place prize of $1,500 in scholarships for bilingual winners and $1,000 in scholarships for the winners in the English and Spanish tracks.

'AI 360°' Initiative Supercharges Curriculum
To keep up with the rapid pace of technological advancements, FIU Business in 2024 – 2025 launched "AI 360°," a comprehensive effort to embed AI learning and research across all disciplines. The initiative prepares students and faculty for the growing impact of AI in the business world, with a structured, collaborative framework to make this integration as effective and impactful as possible.

DBA Program Sees Rapid Growth
FIU Business’s Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA), which helps seasoned professionals step beyond the boardroom, has consistently seen demand outpace available capacity with enrollment tripling in just a few years. The program, designed for senior-level executives seeking to lead with research-based insight, has graduated 93 professionals through the 2024 – 2025 academic year.

Hospitality Track Added to DBA Program
FIU Business and the Chaplin School of Hospitality & Tourism Management have launched a hospitality concentration in the FIU Business DBA program. The program, which enrolled its first cohort in spring of 2025, is designed for senior-level professionals who have established themselves in the hospitality industry and are looking for advancement or to pursue the next chapter in their career.

Gamechangers Challenge Transforms Online Learning
In today’s increasingly virtual world, building meaningful relationships can be a challenge—especially in online learning environments. That’s why FIU Business’ Professional MBA Online program partnered in 2024 – 2025 launched the “Real Connections” challenge, a 30-day experience designed to transform networking, enhance communication and foster personal and professional growth among students.

Research at FIU Business
As part of an R1 top-tier research institution, FIU Business creates innovative business research that shapes business practice and influences public policy. In the spring of 2025, FIU Business was ranked No. 1 in the world for real estate research productivity by the Journal of Real Estate Literature for the fifth consecutive year. Papers by faculty across the seven departments at FIU Business continued to be accepted and published in leading journals in the 2024 – 2025 academic year.

Innovation and Technology Take Center Stage at 4th Annual Real Estate Conference
Innovation, technology and new demand are a driving force in South Florida’s real estate industry as the overall marketplace shows signs of improvement, insiders revealed during REact 2024, the premier real estate conference hosted by FIU Business in November of 2024. The annual conference brought together a crowd of 200-plus industry professionals who discussed the role technology and innovation are playing in the development of new construction projects.

South Florida Entrepreneurs and Small Business Owners Honored
The Florida Small Business Development Center (FSBDC) at FIU Business held the first Business At Its Best Awards in May 2025, honoring entrepreneurs and small business leaders for their innovation and achievement during National Small Business Week. The event drew hundreds of members from the business community who gathered to celebrate the dedication and success of some driving South Florida’s dynamic local economy.

Advice on Leading with Intention and Learning From Failure
Francis Hondal (MBA ’94, BBA ’88), a seasoned corporate leader and former executive at American Express and Mastercard shared her insights on leadership, career growth and global business strategy at FIU Business in February 2025 as part of the Wertheim Lecture Series bringing together members of the community to gain wisdom from Hondal’s extensive 35-year career.

New Program to Boost Small Businesses and Emerging Entrepreneurs
Now based at FIU Business, the Innovation and Growth (BIG) Accelerator program, formerly known as StartUP FIU Local kicked off a new program in fall of 2024. BIG is now working with small businesses and aspiring student entrepreneurs eager to innovate and explore new opportunities.

$75,000 Donation Expands Scholarships for FIU Business Students
The Financial & International Banking Association (FIBA) renewed its commitment in 2024 to the Dr. Felix Reyler Memorial Scholarship Fund at FIU Business with a $75,000 gift to help students focus on academics. FIBA, which promotes international banking, finance and commerce, is committed to investing and promoting education and advancing professional development.

$50,000 Gift to Support Strategic Forum Scholarships
The Forum hosts regular meetings with students to help with career development. Students are required to attend meetings to be considered for the scholarship. Most recently, Sue Romanos, the founder and CEO emeritus CareerExchange South Florida mentored FIU Business students and alumni as part of the program.
