FIU Business Now Magazine - Fall 2023

THE MAGAZINE OF FLORIDA INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY'S COLLEGE OF BUSINESS

From the Dean

There has been a lot of talk about artificial intelligence (AI) this year. As organizations restructure and shift resources to adapt to the new technology, some people worry AI will eliminate their jobs.

In this issue of FIU Business Now, we examine concerns around the technology and find that experts believe AI will not eliminate positions; it will actually enhance productivity for people who know or learn how to use AI effectively. Our faculty experts and alumni leaders weigh in on why AI should be viewed as an opportunity rather than a threat.

In another feature, we look at how retailers must cater to consumers who want their purchases fast – the next day or the same day. Our experts share insights about how retailers and logistics providers can successfully deliver on the final leg of a package's journey, known as last-mile delivery.

Speaking of logistics, we are excited to report in this issue that FIU Business has received a $1.25 million gift from freight payment platform PayCargo to establish the PayCargo Supply Chain and Logistics Program. You can read about how this funding will help the college solidify its position as a center of excellence for international logistics and supply chain management.

In the spring, we were very fortunate to host David Cameron, the former U.K. prime minister, for a talk with students, alumni and other business leaders. Read what he had to say about the intersection of politics and business.

As we do in each issue of FIU Business Now, we feature three of our alumni doing interesting work. You will read about the COO of the largest privately owned residential yacht, the top HR leader at one of the world’s most iconic companies, and an alumna who rose to the C-suite at one of the largest technology companies in the payments industry.

Finally, I want thank our alumni and other friends for their generous support as FIU Business continues on its path to greatness. Our accomplishments would not be possible without you. I hope you enjoy the fall 2023 issue of FIU Business Now.
