FIU Business Now Magazine - Spring 2021

THE MAGAZINE OF FLORIDA INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY'S COLLEGE OF BUSINESS

Face challenges with strength and innovation. At FIU Business, that's what we do. It is the hallmark of our business school, with its heart in Miami and its footprint throughout the world.

Leaping into digital work in the face of the pandemic, we rose to the occasion, with new online degree programs, remote experiential learning opportunities, an innovative HyFlex teaching modality to preserve much-needed in-person interaction, and valuable international alliances. And as our students faced unprecedented challenges, we responded with an unwavering commitment and partnership to help them succeed.

In this issue of FIU Business Now, we share stories of perseverance and success of our faculty, alumni and students. Our international business scholars share new insights for success in the complex post-pandemic international business world. FIU Business supply chain and logistics faculty members, many of them industry veterans, deliver insights on how new geopolitical and economic realities will shape best practices for manufacturing and moving goods around the world. And as our workforces adapt to the seismic changes that sent nearly 40% of all U.S. workers back to their homes with a laptop and a webcam, our leadership scholars share the best practices that will shape our workplaces for years to come.

We are deeply grateful for the strategic partnerships we have formed with members of our business community. They share our commitment to equity and inclusion, research and teaching excellence, and student success, and they have honored us with their financial contributions and their commitment as mentors. We are honored that in a time of limited resources, they trust FIU Business with their time and treasure.

Finally, it has never been more important to support our students as they face ongoing financial hardship throughout the pandemic. Our partners at international insurance firm BMI saw the importance of student scholarships before the pandemic, and continued their mission with new conviction during these challenging times. When I read the stories of how the BMI Scholarship made worthy students' dreams of finishing their degrees come true, I am reminded of the beauty of the mission we all share: supporting the minds and hearts of the next generation of business leaders. I hope you'll join me as we renew our commitment to the students of FIU Business.
