We admit students in the fall and spring terms. Our Master of Accounting program is designed for students who have completed an undergraduate degree in accounting, or equivalent, from a regionally- accredited college or university.
Admission Requirements
To qualify for admission,
1. Applicants must meet the university’s general requirements for admission to a graduate program:
- good standing with all previously-attended colleges and universities
- a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- a grade point average of 3.0 or better based on upper-division coursework. Applicants with less than a 3.0 may be considered, but they should refer to specific program for details.
- official transcripts from all previously-attended universities (undergraduate and graduate) in an envelope sealed by the degree-granting institution(s).
- official proof of degree—a copy of the original diploma is required if the degree is not posted on the official transcript.
- for international transcripts needing translation, applicants must request two sets of transcripts: one for the translation agency and another one for us.
- applicants whose native language is not English must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS.) They must obtain a minimum score of 213 on the computer-Based TOEFL (CBT), 550 on the paper-based TOEFL (PBT), or an 80 on the internet-based TOEFL (iBT). Applicants taking the IELTS must score a minimum of 6.3 overall. To obtain information about the TOEFL exam, please contact the English Language Institute 305-348-2222, or visit www.toefl.org. To obtain more information about the IELTS, visit www.ielts.org.
- international applicants are required to submit the following documents: Declaration of Certification of Finances (DCF), a bank letter, a sponsor letter, if applicable, and an F-1 transfer if they already have an F-1 Visa.
- official GMAT or GRE scores—use institutional code 5206 (FIU) when indicating test score submission. Please refer to specific program for minimum score requirements.
The Chapman Graduate School offers special GMAT preparation courses throughout the year to assist candidates in meeting the requirements for admission to our programs.
2. Applicants will need to prepare for and take the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) with a score of 500 or above, and their undergraduate grade point average (GPA) must be at least 3.00 on a 4.0 scale for admission to the program. If you, as an applicant, prefer to take the Gradate Record Examination (GRE), you can substitute a score of 1000 in place of the GMAT.
3. Any applicant who fails to meet one or more of the above criteria, or who feels that his/her earned GPA or standardized test scores are not indicative of his or her ability to be successful in a graduate degree program, is encouraged to submit additional documentation to augment his/her application portfolio. The Admissions Committee will consider, for example, a master’s or law degree, a professional certification such as the CPA, CFA, SHRM, or other comparable certification, specialized leadership experience or training, or other similar evidence of special qualities as additional factors in evaluating a candidate’s application. . All prerequisites, along with the GMAT/GRE (and TOEFL for international students) must be completed before you can begin taking the MACC courses.
4. Under exceptional circumstances, applicants may be admitted conditionally, provided they have a GPA of 2.75 or higher in all of their upper division course work and extraordinary credentials in all other aspects of the admissions criteria. In such cases, students must complete the first 12 graduate hours with a GPA of 3.25 or higher in order to qualify for full admission to the program.
5. Students with the best combinations of grade point average (GPA), and test scores, will have the first opportunity to enter the program
