About the Program

Full tuition scholarships for FIU Business students

The Deloitte Foundation-Sabater Scholars Program at Florida International University’s College of Business (FIU Business) will honor the legacy of Carlos Sabater, BACC ’81, Senior global partner, the former CEO of Deloitte’s Global Audit business and the Board member of Deloitte member firms in the US, Mexico, the Caribbean and Bermuda Countries (CBC), and Latin American Countries Organization (LATCO).

The program, inspired by Sabater’s widely known commitment to talent development and active engagement in helping young professionals develop their skills and careers, will provide scholarships to FIU Business students. FIU Business students selected as Deloitte Foundation-Sabater Scholars will receive full tuition scholarships as well as other opportunities exclusive to them including:

Mentorship by Deloitte leaders
A one-credit course on leadership, ethics, balancing work and other outside responsibilities
Business opportunities and community work

I love being on campus, and I always find myself energized by the passion and enthusiasm of FIU accounting students. Having the opportunity to interact one-on-one with bright, outgoing students makes me optimistic about the future of the profession.

The Need

More than one third of FIU Business undergraduate students receive Pell Grants and about one-fifth are the first generation in their families to graduate from college. Most work full or part time to cover costs when financial aid runs out or to support their families. Financial need and work obligations often challenge our students’ ability to take advantage of opportunities like study abroad and internships.

Earnings generated by the endowment will provide the funding for full tuition scholarships for the Deloitte Foundation-Sabater Scholars. The endowment’s principal will never be expended, meaning there will be scholars funded for generations.

The Deloitte Foundation-Sabater Scholars Program was announced as a retirement gift to Carlos Sabater honoring his legacy. Contributors partnering with us to bring this incredible legacy to life will be invited to celebrate the unveiling this fall.

A goal of $1,000,000 will establish a robust Deloitte Foundation-Sabater Scholarship Endowment supporting students for years to come. The Deloitte Foundation will match individual gifts subject to its matching gift guidelines. Therefore, in order to reach the $1,000,000 scholars program goal, $500,000 must be raised from individuals.

Partner

$250 monthly
$750 quarterly
$3,000 annually

Managing Director

$175 monthly
$525 quarterly
$2,100 annually

Professionals

$25–$50 monthly
$75–$150 quarterly
$300–$600 annually

The Deloitte Foundation will match contributions to the Deloitte Foundation-Sabater Scholars Program 1:1 up to $7,500 annually. Contributions to the program can also be made through the United Way, however these will not be eligible for match by the Deloitte Foundation.

Please specify your installment preference in the comment box on the giving form. I.e.: I would like my commitment of $22,500 to be billed monthly over a 5 year period.
