The Professional or Senior Professional in Human Resources (PHR/SPHR) Certification is a prestigious, nationally recognized credential. FIU's PHR and SPHR Preparation program featuring the SHRM Learning System® Course is an intensive program designed primarily for individuals seeking certification as a Professional in Human Resources (PHR®) or Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR®) The program will ensure that you have the knowledge and skills to pass the PHR or SPHR exam (administered by the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI))

This program is a thorough review of the six areas designated most important by the HRCI. You and your fellow participants will have the benefit of experienced FIU instructors coupled with a superior exam prep system comprised of interactive and other study materials.

Once you have acquired your PHR or SPHR certification, you join an elite rank of professionals in the HR field—eligible for the most interesting HR positions and entitled to use the HRCI credential on business cards and in correspondence.

Robert Garcia, MBA, SPHR, GPHR

Robert is the Director of Global Business for the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and is responsible for establishing and growing business relationships with global clients including key business leaders and HR executives in multinational and large national companies, accredited universities, human resource associations, and training providers across global regions. 

He brings a wealth of experience in the fields of human resource management, training and development, sales and marketing, leadership consulting, health care administration,   operations, and diversity. He has worked with executive teams in industries that include: international banking, financial services, automotive, pharmaceutical, hospitality, medical, and transportation/logistics. He is tenacious at securing customer loyalty and forging strong relationships with business partners throughout the United States, Latin America, Europe, and the Middle East.

John Nykolaiszyn, MS, SPHR

John Nykolaiszyn is an accomplished human resources professional living and working in South Florida. He started his recruiting career working for The Maxim Group, a division of Aerotek. Capitalizing on a unique opportunity for growth, he joined a boutique firm in 1999, becoming a partner in 2000. He then made a successful transition into corporate HR in two very challenging industries, healthcare and quick service restaurants.

He’s been a senior recruiter at Mount Sinai Medical Center, one of Miami’s largest private, teaching hospitals and an HR Generalist at a high tech laboratory startup owned by one of the largest private hospital chains in the country, Hospital Corporation of America (HCA).

As a Senior Recruiter at Burger King Corporation, John was responsible for partnering with multiple departments, notably their IT and Marketing & Corporate Communications supporting their talent acquisition needs. In addition to his corporate recruiting responsibilities at Burger King Corporation, he was a key member for promoting their employment brand in the social space.

John is now an Associate Director at Florida International University where he is responsible for representing the College of Business Administration, the graduates and alumni to employers on a local, national and international level.

Rossana Tabares, MSHRM, SPHR, GPHR

Rossana Tabares is a human resources executive with over 20 years of domestic and international experience in the full spectrum of Human Resources disciplines with a strong focus on Talent Strategy, Leadership Development and Organizational Alignment.

As an organizational alignment expert and talent strategist she has held various senior level corporate positions in organizations such as Visa, BUPA, Baxter and consulted for companies ranging from start-ups to Fortune 50, partnering with senior and operational management to develop the internal infrastructural alignment, talent and leadership capabilities required to attain sustainable business results.

She currently serves as Director of Talent Acquisition and Talent Development for Phelps Dogde Corporation/General Cable, a Fortune 500 corporation, the third largest leader in the wire and cable market world with 7 billion dollars in revenues, 57 manufacturing locations in 26 countries, selling into nearly every country around the world.

Once you have registered, you will receive an email confirming your place in the program.


Payment Policy: Program fees are due in full upon acceptance into the program.

Substitution Policy: Qualified substitutes for participants can be accommodated with advance written notice.

Withdrawal Policy: Due to costs associated with establishing, holding, and replacing participant slots, the following guidelines will be implemented:

  • 1 week prior the program: the participant will be charged 50% of the program fee.
  • 2 - 4 weeks prior the program: the participant will be charged 25% of the program fee.
  • The remainder of the above mentioned will be transferred to another program upon receipt of written notice.
