The Center for International Education and Research (CIBER) was formed in 1995 to create new knowledge and ideas for improving the international business climate, strengthening our regional economy, and helping individuals and businesses compete in the global marketplace. We apply this learning to teaching across the university and to further research in the field. And we offer this new knowledge to our communities through outreach programs in our region, throughout the Américas, and beyond.
Located at the business and financial crossroads of The Américas, Miami, we have unique expertise in and a special focus on Latin America and the Caribbean. We’re also extending our ties in Europe and expanding them rapidly in the emerging markets of Asia.
New Demands on Transnational Businesses
We are deeply engaged in tracking the momentous changes affecting transnational businesses in this era of extraordinary transformation while stressing the following areas in our research:
- Global competitiveness
- Global logistics
- National security
- International best practices – first and successfully in human resource management, now turning to other urgent areas
- International entrepreneurship
- International trade
Our expertise in global competitiveness and national security is widely known. We routinely give expert testimony to Congress on such matters as DR-CAFTA and on the impact of the Patriot Act on South Florida businesses. Two of our professors received a $2 million grant from Congress to study suspicious financial transactions. CIBER is developing new partnerships with private and public sector to further to improve U.S. international competitiveness in today’s world of multi-hazard threats & heightened security.
Global Academic Vision
Our academic goal is to build your international savvy—as students, faculty, and participants in our programs. We work with faculty, other centers, and outside partners to create formal courses and programs with international vision such as an international business minor for language majors and study-abroad programs. Other efforts include innovative language programs for students, faculty, and staff, and an international business course for high schools.
We provide many ways for you to engage directly with international business issues and challenges and to the build knowledge and skills you need to make the most of the exciting opportunities in our increasingly international business environment.
