Hollo School Professor Wins Best Paper Award at International Real Estate Conference

Zhenguo Lin

(July 23, 2018) Zhenguo (Len) Lin, an associate professor in the Hollo School of Real Estate, won a best paper award at the Global Chinese Real Estate Congress, held in Qingdao, China July 20 – 22. The paper, “House Price, Loan-to-Value Ratio and Credit Risk,” looks at the effect of mortgage loans on property prices. The findings, published in the July issue of the Journal of Banking and Finance, suggest that many mortgages originated at the peak of a housing bubble are “under water” at origination.

Lin also presented his findings at a lecture at Shanghai University of Finance and Economics a few days before the conference. The lecture, hosted by Jie Chen, a visiting professor at FIU last summer, was featured in an article posted on the Chinese social media site Weixin.

Based on the most recent ranking in real estate research, Lin ranks No. 4 globally for the period of 2013-2017 by the Journal of Real Estate Literature. In 2013, he received the William N. Kinnard Young Scholar Award, an international recognition for making significant contributions in his field.
