Research by FIU Business faculty cited in World Bank’s latest Global Investment Competitiveness Report

Jerry Haar

(October 14, 2020) Research by Jerry Haar, a professor of international business and David Wernick, a teaching professor of international business, has been cited in the World Bank’s latest Global Investment Competitiveness Report, “Rebuilding Investor Confidence in Times of Uncertainty,” recently released. The report, developed in the month’s preceding the outbreak of COVID-19, focuses on trade and investment policy uncertainty due to policy shifts, globally and nationally. It finds that rising policy uncertainty is darkening the outlook for foreign direct investment.

Research by Haar and Wernick is cited among a large body of research that suggests that the quality of a country’s legal and regulatory environment is positively associated with foreign direct investment. Their research, published in the International Journal of Economics and Business Research, examined data on foreign direct investment inflows for a sample of 64 emerging economies over time. The article interprets the results of the statistical analyses, considering their policy implications, and offers directions for future research.
