FIU Business professor named to Executive DBA Council board.

George Marakas

(July 7, 2020) George Marakas, director of Doctoral Programs at FIU Business, has been elected to the board of the Executive DBA Council (EDBAC), the international standards and networking body for over 150 DBA programs worldwide. The organization also approves new DBA programs at member universities and colleges.

FIU will host the EDBAC’s annual conference, Engaged Management Scholarship, in September 2021.

In 2018, FIU Business introduced its first DBA program, designed for executives with an MBA or Master’s degree and substantial managerial experience in a business-related field.

In contrast to the theoretical research-oriented PhD, the DBA provides students with real-world, business-oriented critical thinking and problem-solving skills through an applied research perspective.

An FIU Business alumnus and donor, Marakas established the Doctoral Student Organization and funded the Marakas Family Doctoral Student Association Room. His research has been published in Information Systems Research, MIS Quarterly, Management Science, the Journal of Applied Business and Economics, the Database for Advances in Information Systems and the Journal of Organizational and End User Computing.
