Finance faculty member recognized for Excellence in Service

(July 6, 2020) Deanne Butchey, university lecturer of finance, has been honored with the Faculty Award for Excellence in Service by FIU’s Office of the Provost. The award recognizes outstanding contributions to FIU Business, the university and the community-at-large. She will receive the award at the Faculty Convocation Award Ceremony in fall 2020.
In 2013, Butchey was recognized with the “Spirit of Service-Learning Award” awarded by the Returned Peace Corps Volunteers of South Florida Inc. (RPCVSF), the Miami-Dade Teacher of the Year Coalition, and the Armando Alejandre Jr. Foundation.
Previously, she was faculty advisor to ENACTUS @ FIU, a student organization that aims to facilitate the impactful collaborations of students and community partners by creating, commercializing, and enhancing innovative social entrepreneurship projects to stimulate economic advancement.
Currently, Butchey is the faculty advisor of the Phoenician Investment Fund and the Financial Management Association, both organizations devoted to improving students’ financial knowledge/skills and academic success. She also serves the Haitian community as a board member and treasurer of EcoWorks International, a global organization tasked at helping farmers cultivate an abundant food supply to feed Haiti, restore ecosystems, and advance social justice.
Butchey’s research has been published in leading scholarly journals, including Managerial Finance, the Journal of Business Ethics Education, the Journal of Financial Education, the Journal of American Academy of Business, Metropolitan Universities Journal, the Academy of Business Research Journal and the Journal of the International Society of Business Discipline.
