Professional Activities

Cynthia LeRouge, Ph.D., is a Professor of Health Informatics with the School of Business at Florida International University (FIU) where she was recently awarded the position of Ryder Eminent Scholar Chair in MIS. Dr. LeRouge has affiliate appointments with the University of Washington (UW) at the School of Public Health and the School of Medicine. She is the Co-Deputy Director of UW’s Primary Care Innovation Lab, which focuses on collaborations to support industry/academic collaborative studies to promote thoughtful technology innovation in the health care space. She has held various senior management roles in the accounting, software, and healthcare sectors of industry prior to joining academe. She has also served as a visiting scholar at the Centers for Disease Control with the Public Health Informatics Fellowship Program. Dr. LeRouge has held positions of leadership with the American Telemedicine Association Business and Finance SIG and served as co-editor in chief of Health Systems journal for ten years. She has been recognized with research, service, and teaching awards.

Dr. LeRouge has over 18 years’ experience with health informatics research. She specializes in the study of telemedicine, consumer health informatics, and public health informatics. The projects she pursues explore the creation and evaluation of information technology artifacts and process models in actual practice situations. The socio-technical nature of HIS technologies and processes draws her to explore various issues spawned through the use of technologies by healthcare organizations and health consumers: inter-organizational relationships, virtual teams, strategy, user adoption and diffusion, human-centered design, workflow, usability, user experience, system design and implementation, project management, and outcomes (process, clinical, and structure). Dr. LeRouge has contributed to scientific literature with over 120 peer-reviewed publication.
