About Us

The Centers for International Business Education and Research (CIBERs) were created by Congress under the Omnibus Trade and Competitiveness Act of 1988 to increase and promote the nation’s capacity for international understanding and competitiveness. Administered by the U.S. Department of Education under Title VI, Part B of the Higher Education Act of 1965, the CIBER network links the manpower and technological needs of the United States business community with the international education, language training, and research capacities of universities across the country.

FIU Business established its CIBER with a U.S. Department of Education grant of $1.33 million, which will have a total impact of more than $2.7 million with matching funds from the college. The FIU Business CIBER is one of just 16 to be funded nationwide and the only one in Florida. The CIBER supports such activities as Undergraduate Research Associate Program; interdisciplinary programs incorporating foreign language and international studies training; international internships and study abroad programs; international trade missions; PhD-level seminars, webinars, and workshops; and faculty research and development programs in South Korea, India, and Latin America.
