Global trade is at an inflection point. The last five years have witnessed a drift towards populism, nationalism and protectionism by a number of nations, yet global trade and investment continue on a march, albeit at a slower pace. Given these conflictive movements and in light of the change of administration in the United States, what is the outlook for international trade and commerce as the new year gets underway?

Previously, he served for 15 years as president of the National Foreign Trade Council.

Jerry Haar is executive director for Latin America and the Caribbean and professor of international business at the Florida International University College of Business. Haar is formerly associate dean and director of the Pino Global Entrepreneurship Center. He is also a Global Fellow at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington, D.C., and a research affiliate of the David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies at Harvard University.
