Certificate in Health Informatics

The Graduate Certificate in Health Informatics program provides individuals with a basic understanding of health information technology and management of the complex inherent within the healthcare sector.

  • Admission Requirements

    Applicants must have earned a bachelor’s degree with a GPA of 2.75 or higher from an accredited institution.

    Applicants who hold an undergraduate degree from an institution where the language of instruction is not English must demonstrate English proficiency by taking either:

    • TOEFL (minimum scores are: 550 paper-based, 213 computer-based, and 80 internet-based)
    • IELTS (minimum score is 6.5)
    • Pearson Test of English – Academic (minimum score is 53)
    • Cambridge English – Advanced
    • Duolingo (test score of 105 or above may substitute for TOEFL or IELTS)


    Applicants can take the Duolingo English Test online at any time without traveling to a test center.

    TOEFL and IELTS test scores are considered official when sent by the testing center directly to our school. When requesting the official scores, please refer to the Florida International University Institution code 5206.

  • Prerequisite

    Students must have completed the Graduate Certificate in Business Analytics, or must have completed the equivalent level of course work.

  • Application Process

    STEP 1: Apply for the Program

    Complete the Graduate Certificate Application. Select “Create User Account” (unless you have created one previously). Complete all required fields.

    There is a non-refundable application fee of US $30.00.

    STEP 2: Submit all materials

    Submit your completed application and all supporting documentation to:

    • Official transcripts from all previously attended colleges and/or universities. If the official transcripts are not in English, a second copy of the transcript must be evaluated by an official translation agency that is accredited by NACES and sent to our mailing address above.
    • Official proof of degree. A notarized copy of the original diploma is required if the degree is not posted on the official transcript(s).
    • Resume. Include any HIT experience, especially if you do not have a Bachelor of Health Administration or Health Informatics.

  • Programs of Study

    The Graduate Certificate in Health Informatics program may be completed over six to twelve months and requires completion of 15 credits (five courses).

    Courses are offered in various formats- either fully online, hybrid on weekends or evenings.

  • Career and Educational Path

    Students who complete the first 12 credits of the Graduate Certificate in Health Informatics program with a GPA of 3.25 or higher, may be eligible for admission to the Master of Science in Health Informatics and Analytics (MSHIA) program. Appropriate courses from the certificate program may be transferred into the MSHIA degree program.

  • Tuition and Financial Aid

    The total cost of the certificate program is $15,625 with a cost of $3,125 per course.

    The graduate certificate program is not currently eligible for the State of Florida tuition waiver.
