Excellence in Civic Engagement Medallion of Distinction

FIU students who excel in community service learning and civic engagement while maintaining a high academic standing will be eligible to receive special recognition at each Commencement starting this fall. At Commencement, these students will wear the Excellence in Civic Engagement Medallion of Distinction.

As part of its vision as a top urban public research University, FIU wants to be known for its "engagement with local communities." To fulfill its mission, FIU is committed to promoting public service. In addition, the preamble to the Student Code of Standards states that the University is dedicated to generating and imparting knowledge through various means, including community service among students.

The Medallion of Distinction will recognize those students who represent active citizenship by promoting civic responsibility and by being involved in community service projects.
