American Marketing Association chapter distinguishes itself . . . again.

The College of Business Administration’s American Marketing Association (AMA) chapter received the “Distinguished Chapter” award at the 29th Annual International AMA Collegiate Conference in New Orleans in March, 2007. It was the latest award for the chapter, which has enjoyed an incredible string of honors since it re-emerged just six years ago. In 2006, the organization was named “Collegiate Chapter of the Year.”

“Our AMA chapter has achieved something unheard of,” said Tim Dugan Birrittella, lecturer in the Department of Marketing in the college and AMA faculty advisor. “In five short years, our chapter won the national title, proving that our university’s AMA is one of the leaders within the International Collegiate Division. We also have been in the Top 10 for five consecutive years, and the 2007 award keeps us in the Top 8 within the collegiate division, which includes more than 300 chapters.”

Members touch every aspect of national meeting.

Leading up to the conference, and during it, the college’s AMA students stayed on the go constantly. Thanks to the 2006 win, the college’s chapter—represented by 22 students—served as conference hosts. They organized a networking session, led seminars, and designed the conference t-shirt (which was distributed to 1,100+ students).

Their responsibilities didn’t stop there. They kept events on schedule, introduced all the speakers, handed out evaluations and thank-you gifts, moderated sessions, and assembled a tradeshow exhibit related to the conference’s theme of “Destination: Marketing.”

With so many accomplishments to its credit now, the college’s AMA chapter officers and members are getting even more savvy about maintaining their high-profile national image.

“Judges evaluate membership, planning, fundraising, community service, and communication,” said Maria Glenny, AMA chapter president. “We are now able to repeat successful programs, modifying and updating them, rather than starting from scratch. We expect our experiences so far to continue to enable us to make a strong showing at the national level.”
