Students give back to college in stellar fashion.

Later this year, when the new business building complex opens, one of its most stunning features will be the Wall of Stars in Commons Hall. Among the most important donors are students—the people for whom the buildings are being built.

Michael Jadoo

“The College of Business Administration is putting a lot of effort, time, and money to better our education and make our degree very valuable,” said Michael Jadoo, who recently made a contribution that earned him a star. “I have been sent on several trips that I know cost the college a lot of money, and I wanted to give something back.”

A senior, Jadoo is completing a double major in finance and management information systems (MIS) along with a double minor in economics and Asian studies. He expects to graduate with a bachelor’s degree in August, 2008. He also serves as director of professional development for the Alpha Kappa Psi fraternity.

“When I leave the college and look back on my life to see how I got to where I am, the star will remind me,” he said. “I didn’t want to leave this phase of my life without having something like this to look back on.”

Vanessa Saballos (Ball-llovera) (MACC ’06, BBA ’05), an auditor at Ernst & Young and former president of Florida International University's Accounting Association (FIU-AA), agrees.

“I’ve been very involved with the college and wanted to give something back,” she said. “I also hoped that my contribution would encourage others to donate.”

College offers special rate for current students.

The college has established a special giving level of $150 for current students, payable over a three-year period. Florida matches every donation to the building fund dollar for dollar, doubling the worth of each contribution and giving contributors the satisfaction of making their gifts even more valuable. In addition, all contributions are tax deductible.

You will find more information about the Wall of Stars as well as a link to make a pledge or complete an inquiry form for further information.

“Although students can pay their pledge over three years, they must make their commitment before the campaign ends,” said Silvia Arrastia, external relations coordinator, executive dean’s office, who can be reached at 305-348-0098 or Silvia.Arrastia@business.fiu.edu.
