Spring Business Industry Night helps pave way for careers.

Approximately 250 students turned out for the spring session of Business Industry Night, a great opportunity for business students interested in a variety of positions within different industries to get information and to network. The FIU Accounting Association (FIU-AA) organizes this semi-annual event.

Representatives from major corporations make short presentations about openings within their organizations. A mini-career fair during which each company has a booth at which they can speak to students, collect resumes, and conduct interviews follows the presentations.

Darren Tennyuk (MBA ’00) found the presentations informative.

“You learn what each corporation is looking for and something specific about each of them,” he said. “I would go again, and recommend that any junior or senior who is majoring in accounting or finance attend to find out about potential internships and jobs.”

Some job, internship, and scholarship offers result from the networking that takes place at the event, and some students receive invitations to professional functions at the participating companies.

The companies and organizations who attended the spring Business Industry Night were ALPFA, Ameriprise Financial, Becker Professional Review, Black & Decker, Burger King Corporation, Career Services, De La Torre & Taraboulos, C.P.A., Enterprise Rent-A-Car, FBI, Goldstein Lewin & Co., HACU, INROADS, IRS, Kunin Associates, Lennar Corporation, Marriot International, Progressive Insurance, Royal Caribbean Cruises, Ltd., Steven Douglas Associates, Steven S. Feldman, CPA Kane & Company, P.A., and Target. Joyce J. Elam, executive dean of the College of Business Administration, also attended.
