Career and Education Fair opens doors.
The recent Career and Education Fair, coordinated by Florida International University’s Career Services office, was a big hit as far as Philip Herzberg (MSF ’05) was concerned.
“This was my second go-round,” he said. “I thought the first one was a great experience, but I wasn’t yet sure exactly what I wanted to do. My goal then was to visit different companies and organizations and hand out some resumes.”

By the time he was ready to attend his second Career Fair, Herzberg was more focused.
“It was no longer simply that I wanted to do ‘something in finance,’” he said. “I had targeted four or five specific companies and was geared up for them.”
Part of what enabled him to be ready was the support he got from Career Management Services, whose personnel assisted employers and MBA students.
“The staff does an excellent job of promoting us and helping us prepare,” Herzberg said. “For example, they teach us how to do a thirty-second introductory speech to convey who we are and what we’re looking for. They also help us fine-tune our resume, adapting and adjusting it to the position we’re looking for. And they teach us interviewing techniques, so if we get a call for an interview, we are prepared to handle it.”
One aspect of the experience that he particularly liked was the chance to meet Florida International University alumni working at companies that offer employment and internship opportunities.
“The recruiters I met were very helpful,” he said, “but it was also really great to get another perspective from an alum.”
