Students capture prestigious scholarships.

Thanks to the generosity of supporters of the College of Business Administration, a number of hardworking, talented students—sixteen to be exact—recently received scholarships that recognize their dedication and that will help defray some of their educational expenses.

Here’s an introduction to the generous donors and this year’s recipients:

Assurant Solutions: Maycol Garcia $1,500. Assurant Solutions provides awards to undergraduate students majoring in MIS, industrial engineering, and actuarial studies.


Lucy Gutierrez

Crystal Advisors, L.L.C.: Cristina Mariaca, $1,200. Recipients of awards from the Crystal Advisors Student Support Endowment must be enrolled as degree-seeking students in the College with a minimum 3.3 cumulative GPA (on a 4.0 scale). Preference is given to applicants with a demonstrated need for financial assistance who are residents of South Florida ( Palm Beach, Broward, Miami-Dade, Monroe) or are international students from Latin America.

Ernst & Young: Lucy Gutierrez, $3,000 and Kenneth Rojas, $2,000. The Ernst & Young Business Leaders scholarships are awarded to full-time students in the Master of Accounting (MACC) program or senior undergraduate accounting majors in the School of Accounting in the College. Students must have a minimum overall GPA of 3.3 and a minimum GPA of 3.5 in accounting courses. Selection is based on academic merit and leadership potential. Selected students are designated as “Ernst & Young Scholars” while they hold the scholarship.

CBA Business Ethics Scholarships (includes scholarships from Union Planters Bank, Wachovia, Bank of America, The AXA Foundation, and Colonial Bank): Mark Elbadramany, $4,000.

To qualify for these scholarships, undergraduate business students who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents must have completed or be enrolled in Business in Society, Business Ethics, Dilemmas of Responsibility in Business Management, or Corporate Social Monitoring, and have a demonstrated financial need, a record of community service activities, and a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Rachlin Cohen & Holtz LLP: Jaime Pineda. The Rachlin Cohen & Holtz LLP Accounting Scholarship for $2,500 is available for a graduate student in accounting. Selection is based primarily on academic merit. Students must have at least a 3.0 GPA and be citizens or permanent residents of the United States.

Sydney Roslow: Dianne Cordova, $2,000 and Gabor Szendrei, $1,000. The Sydney Roslow Service Scholarships are awarded to undergraduate students at the Biscayne Bay Campus who have demonstrated promise in business and community leadership. Selection is based on academic merit and service to school and community, with preference given to marketing majors.

Ocean Bank: Silrita Anderson, Jimmie Beard, Laetitia Blanchard, Anne Maire Colimon, Abdonlaye Dabo, Susan Duncan, Danelle Martin, and Marc Phanord were named this year’s Ocean Bank Scholars. The Ocean Bank Scholarship Fund is a three-year, $60,000 allocation. Each year, $20,000 will be awarded to eight outstanding black or African American accounting or finance students in the College. The group will include four juniors or seniors from the Landon Undergraduate School of Business and four students in the Chapman Graduate School of Business.
