Business students get taste of reality.

Two students from the College of Business Administration triumphed in "The Intern," a recent competition modeled on the Reality TV series "The Apprentice." Mark Elbadramany, an international business and finance major, and Lemen McCray, an accounting major, won $1,000 cash awards from City Furniture and IBM.

A panel of eighteen judges from national and multinational companies evaluated ten contestants, culled from 217 applications from throughout the University, using an essay as the basis for selecting the winners.

The contestants were subjected to three separate competitive events. On day one, they underwent a resume and interview critique by two recruiters, after which two students were eliminated. Day two required them to dress for business success, with questions and input from Lourdes Figueroa (BBA '85), founder and CEO, UdefineU, LLC. The judges eliminated two more students. On day three, with seven judges on duty, the remaining six contestants each had two minutes with each judge to sell himself or herself.

College students Eric Blanco, an accounting major, and Mike Anestor, who is majoring in business administration/entrepreneurship, were both prize winners, too. Blanco won a Kenneth Cole briefcase bag from the Florida International University Bookstore and Anester walked off with a professional portfolio and a $25.00 gift certificate, also from the FIU Bookstore.

Other sponsors were UdefineU, LLC, which provided a professional development package, and Disney World, which contributed two admission tickets.
