Free seminar focuses on diversity.
South Florida's cultural diversity has proven to be a strong attraction to students, who routinely say they were drawn to Florida International University because of its diverse population. However, companies sometimes are challenged when they try to unlock the full potential of a diverse workforce.
A day-long seminar, "Achieving Diversity," will show how a diverse workforce can add to an organization's effectiveness in multiple ways. Morevoer, companies that achieve success in capitalizing on their diversity translate this success into good news for the College's students as they face job searches and the chance to be as effective as possible, once hired.
Hosted by Executive Dean Joyce Elam and Chapman Graduate School of Business Dean José de la Torre, the upcoming seminar for companies will cover such crucial topics as:
- Mentoring diverse employees
- Developing internal individuals from minority groups for future promotions
- Policy-making for diversity throughout the organization
- Recruiting for diversity
- Giving back to the community through company diversity efforts
The event, designed for corporate diversity officers, will kick off with a reception on June 8th. The seminar will run all day June 9th. There is no fee; however, registration is required. To register or for more information, contact Barry Shiflett, director of Career Management Services at bshiflett@fiu.edu or 305-348-7396.
