MIB students attend international business seminar in Key Largo.
During the weekend of January 14-16, Master of International Business (MIB)
students took part in the program's Introduction to International Business seminar held in Key Largo, Florida. The
seminar's purpose was to provide them with an overview of international business and to challenge them to tackle the
specialized courses that they will encounter in the program. In addition, the seminar allowed new members in the program
to become acquainted with one another and the faculty and staff with whom they will be working.
Over the course of the seminar, students took part in an international business
simulation, lectures, and cross-cultural games and workshops in order to become more familiar with the different aspects
of global business. The sessions included a discussion with Chapman Dean Jose De La Torre on international business;
a lecture by Professor Jerry Haar, who provided students with an outlook on conducting business in Latin America, and a
presentation by Professor Alan Carsrud on entrepreneurship in international business.
The highlight of the trip was a cross-cultural simulation-Bafa Bafa-conducted by
MIB's Academic Director and Chapman Associate Dean Tomislav Mandakovic by and MIB Program Manager Anna Pietraszek. MIB
students come from countries like Malaysia, Czech Republic, Mexico, Venezuela, Panama, Peru, Colombia,
Belize, and Nicaragua, among others.
Students who attended the seminar found it to be a great success. According to
student Elliott Konig, "The seminar in Key Largo is a wonderful experience. I was provided with great insight about the
field of international business and also was given the opportunity to familiarize myself with my professors and fellow
classmates."
