GET INVOLVED

AMA continues to grow.

After being named the number one chapter in the Southern Region, the College's American Marketing Association chapter is now looking to expand its roster of conferences, workshops, and seminars into the local business community.

Toward that end, the group is looking for South Florida companies to "hire" the AMA to work on marketing projects for them. The College group will charge a nominal fee for their efforts. Members will gain experience while raising money to attend the 27th International Collegiate Conference April 14-16, 2005, in New Orleans.

The local chapter hosted eight corporate speakers last semester. They included representatives from New Era Marketing, Click Pharmacy, Black & Decker, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Florida Marlins, Carnival Cruise Lines, JC Penney, and the Alliance for Aging. The group has already scheduled eight speakers for this spring.

AMA also conducts a number of community service programs. During the past fall, it held a Race for the Cure, a canned food drive, and a sexually transmitted disease awareness campaign. The chapter plans to work on six new programs this spring.

Meetings during the spring semester will be on February 22, March 8, March 22, April 5, and April 19. If you're interested, check the web site at www.fiu.edu/~ama or the bulletin board in the Ryder Business Building for room numbers and times.
