New Venture Challenge announces workshops and deadlines for the spring.
Teams of FIU students, both graduate and undergraduate, are forming now to enter the third
annual Howard J. Leonhardt New Venture Challenge. The competition provides students with an opportunity to win valuable
prizes ranging from $2,500 to $10,000 for a business plan for an original, start-up venture. Teams who submitted
completed application forms by February 4, 2005, will receive notification and further instructions by February 18.
"One group submitted an idea for a dance school, another for a tutoring service, and a
third group developed a real estate concept," said Colleen Post, associate director of the Pino Global Entrepreneurship
Center. "We've received applications from people with a wide array of talents."
The deadline for Florida International University teams to submit their final business
plans is April 14. In the meantime, the Center will be offering a "Business Plan Writing" workshop on February 26, a
"Business Plan Financials" workshop on March 12, and a "Fundamentals of Business Law" workshop on April 2.
Preliminary Oral Presentations of teams' business plans will take place on May 5, with
the Final Oral Presentations slated for May 11. To help teams prepare for the Oral Presentations, the Center is
offering a "Presenting Your Business Plan" workshop on April 30.
