John Paul Fernandez (right), vice chairman of the Real Estate Student Association (RESA), joins other organization members at the Annual Real estate Awards Luncheon on October 19.
The newly recognized Real Estate Student Association (RESA) already has ambitious plans, according to the group's vice president, John Paul Fernandez. The main goal of the organization is to provide networking opportunities with local real estate professionals in this exciting field. Monthly gatherings will always include a speaker so that students from various areas-such as marketing, construction, architecture, and finance-can learn more about the many career paths in commercial and residential real estate. RESA also plans to host workshops and conferences.
RESA's members were among the 50 people who attended an awards ceremony in FIU's GC Ballroom to honor industry professionals who support the College's Jerome Bain Real Estate Institute.
For the first time in its four-year history, the Annual Real Estate Awards Luncheon received corporate sponsorship, courtesy of GMAC Commercial Mortgage and Pyramid Realty Group, Inc. GMAC Vice President John McLeod said a prime component of his job is getting out from behind his desk and into the field, "which includes coming to FIU and talking to students."
Students did some talking, too. John Paul Fernandez addressed the audience of academics, professionals, and students, identifying his group's goals and voicing appreciation for all their support .
Now that it's been officially recognized by the University, RESA can put up a web site; its creation is under way. Till that's launched, watch for flyers announcing events or contact Fernandez for more information about membership and activities.
